Geez! What's next?
Well! Thought lately that my 99SC with flip-chip 87/93oct.
had less power. Not much time passed before i started checking.
After some checking....and i do mean checking.
Eventually starting thinking about schip. I started thinking gas..91oct..reasoned it was ok...then the chip...currently and for awhile, ive been using 91oct-side II (higher oct. when available)
GEEZ! The switch got switched from the 93oct. mode to the 87 mode. Probably not to long...but...DUMB...DUMB!
Accidentally got switched...its at the front/bottom edge below glove box...used existing hole to mount...switch is exposed.
So...while im waiting for PCM drain etc...yep..gotta start over..wanted to pass this on, especially for the flipchip users.. Guess i better move switch so that dosent happen again..maybe tape it or??
OK....im in the Hall of Shame or Weiner City or????
Good luck...OT

lol OT... you're not the only one...
You shoulda seen the fit I pitched when a friend of mine thought it was funny flipping the switch without me knowing! I've got my switch mounted in the same place as you do, and to most people, it's not noticable, but someone always finds a way to flip it back to the 87! Luckily no one had done it with the vehicle running. Don't know what that would do, but I don't think it would be good.

Hi OT,
No harm done, at least you weren't driving it around with 87 octane in the tank on the premium gas program, that would be far worse. What you did just cost you a little power until you discovered it, but if you had run it on 87 octane on Side 2, you could have heard some pinging, depending on the knock sensor in your particular vehicle.
People have to look to flip that switch when mounted there as you describe, but if they do look, then they can find it. We've never had one get switched accidentally when mounting the switch there, because it's not in the way of or the path of where passenger's knees or feet are, etc. But you may feel you need to relocate the switch to keep this from happening again, and that is certainly understandable given what's happened, so you can do that if you want. You can even extend the lead if you want to mount it over on the Driver's side, for example, just make sure to use either the same gauge of wire or not more than 1 gauge heavier (numerically lower) if you do extend it.
A number of people have mounted them in the ashtray, in custom overhead consoles, over near the driver, etc., you name it and it's been put there.
Good luck!
