HP gains on a 99??
HP gains on a 99??
By adding a chip and a JDM cold air induction kit with a 90mm MAF, what is a REALTISIC HP gain on a 99?? I'm probably looking at close to $800 for just the air kit and the chip!!!
I tow a 3500 lb boat short distances (5 miles round trip) once or twice a week, will this require a flip chip, or can I get by with a single program chip with the performance program??
Thanks!!

Hi slapshot,
We are the F-150 Online Authorized JDM Engineering distributor, so we can help you with some info on that.
The power gains from optimizing the powertrain programming in a 1999 or 2000 Lightning run anywhere from about 40-46 hp (32-38 hp real wheel), it will vary a bit from one Lightning to the next.
Installing the intake kit will give you about 18 to perhaps as much as 20 horsepower, and will allow you to take advantage of the much improved tuning from the Superchip as well.
So figure you'll pick up somewhere between 58-66 horsepower from those 2 modifications, these are SAE Net flywheel numbers, just as your stock vehicle rating is expressed.
You'll notice that I haven't said anything about the 90mm MAF so far.........what you'll gain from that at your level of modifications is a good question. Your stock 80mm MAF can easily handle your current power levels even after the chip & intake kit, so you won't see big gains from the 90mm unit, though there will be some, probably on the order of about 5-8 more hp.
One thing important to remember is that if you do go with the 90mm MAF upgrade, the Superchip will have to be tuned specifically for it, of course.
Being an Authorized JDM distributor, we can provide all of those parts & tuning. Just give us a call if we can help.
Best of luck & have fun with your Lightning!
