Just ordered Superchip from Mike
mastercraft1
Mike gets thing shipped really fast so whatever shipping option you decided to do (2 day,3 day overnite etc) is a really good indication on the days it will take. I ordered mine 2 day shipping and it took exactly that. It will be neccesary to run the 92 oct to get the full benefit of the chip. If you use lower octane you will still see the shift improvement but will probably get some pinging etc since its been programmed for the higher octane.
I went with a flip-chip in mine so I could use both octanes and have the ability to switch gas when I wanted or needed to.
Welcome aboard to a local person, there are a couple people from Raleigh here now.

Hi Mastercraft1,
We do not automatically send another email out with a tracking number, if that is what you are asking?
Anyone who wants their tracking number can give us a quick call, or shoot us an email. Calling is always quicker of course, as sometiems our email load is such that it can take 2-3 days to get a response.
Though we are already closed for the weekend by now (we close at 7 pm Easter), if you call us and leave a voicemail on our system (24 hr. voicemail, so call anytime!) with your name and telephone number, we'll look up your tracking number for your shipment over the weekend and give you a call so you'll have that info!
And yes, you will *always* have to use good quality premium gasoline of at least 91 octane (91 thru 94 octane) with the Superchip, as it retunes the engine *specifically* for the use of premium gas, that is how much of the power gain is made. If you don't use the required fuel, you won't get the power gain and you could experience detonation, so this is a must, use the good stuff & enjoy the performance.

Truckoff,
At first I was thinking the same and then after almost 2 yrs I bought the more expensive flip-chip so I could run either octane gas. After a couple tanks of 87 octane I switched the switch and filled up with 92. I dont think in the last couple months I have gone back to the lower octane setting on the chip. The extra couple dollars on fill up is worth the firmer shifts, better throttle response(quicker to react) better passing ability at higher speeds and better power control when towing our boat. The removal of the speed limiter is a plus to but I have yet to use that aspect of the chip.
Its a decision you only will have to make. I kicked it around for awhile then gave Mike Troyer a call and it was the best thing in my opinion I did. My father(67) just purchased a 2002 model identical to mine a few months ago. He drove mine last weekend and really noticed the difference, so much so he is actually thinking of putting one in his.

Doesn't sound like the thing for me.
Not intersted in "playing." Just looking to improve mileage. (I've already added the K&N filter which, btw; did absolutely nothing.)
The improved shifting is appealing, but my truck is already plenty fast for me.

I'm with 'FordStyle on this one
I don't have a flipchip, but I can tell you it doesn't bother me to pull up to the premium pump at all.
The crisp response and the re-tune of the tranny shifting is well worth the price of admission to me. I figure it like this: I'll end up putting 25k miles on my truck this year, and I average a good 16.5 miles/gallon. Throwing a worst case at it (20 cents per gallon higher for premium), I'll spend roughly $300 additional over running 87 octane. Not too bad!

Hi Truckoff,
The Superchip is a performance part (this section is basically about performance), it's the easiest & cheapest way to pick up about a 10% power gain in these trucks. It tunes the engine specifically for the use of premium gasoline to increase horsepower and torque, improves shifting in the automatics, removes various delays and retards that slow down powertrain response and hinder performance.
Trying to get more mpg from a K&N air filter is usually not very effective, getting more mpg in a 2-3 ton truck from a $40 air filter is an awful lot to ask. The K&N drop in filter will get you another 4-5 more horsepower, so it's well worth it's price at a cost of about $10 per additional horsepower, but you'd be hard pressed to find any real mpg gains from it.
If you're looking for the kinds of modifications that tend to show mpg gains, a number of what are considered to be performance modifications also just happen to give better mpg as a byproduct of their function. For example, a set of underdrive pulleys, which will give you another 12 hp to the rear wheels in a V-8 F-150 (8 hp in a V-6), can generally get you another .5-1.0 mpg or so. Converting over to an electric cooling fan setup gets you another 10-15 hp depending on which engine, and another .5-1.0 mpg. We put an electric cooling fan and a Cobra R water pump on one of our 5.4 F-150's here ( a Lightning) and picked up 2.0 mpg on the highway at 65 mph.
We also offer a different version of the Superchip which has as one of it's 2 programs one that is tuned for use on 87 octane gasoline for those who are not looking for a lot more power, but still want the improved automatic transmission shifting and the driveability & other improvements.
If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, give us a call sometime and we'll be happy to go over with you the things you can do to improve mpg in these trucks, etc.
These are big heavy vehicles of course, and as such they aren't ever going to get really good gas mileage, obviously. But you can pick up the fuel efficiency of the vehicle by a decent amount over stock with a few small changes, enough to make it worthwhile for someone who is keeping their vehcle for a few years.
Good luck!

Hi Truckoff,
Sure you can email us!
For anything detailed, you'll want to call of course, as it takes far too long to discuss any details typing it all out mahually, our email load is far too heavy for that.
