Gas prices
Yea its kinda the glass half full or half empty thing. I most likley will NOT pull the chip unless it jumps to much over 2 bucks (owch) and stay there.
Right now I fill up for $1.79 Cheveron. I have seen a few stations at more than $2.00 but thats in La Jolla, and I never buy gas this close to the coast, just too expensive.

Upstate South Carolina
Amoco 87 is $1.29
Amoco 93 is $1.49
But, prices here seem to vary alot. As i drive my 20 mile commute to work, I see it vary about 10 cents at different gas stations of the same brand.

I agree that no matter how high the gas prices go the difference for premium stays the same, BUT it sucks leaving the pump $40 lighter, so you start cutting wherever you can...
I will still order the superchip tho, as I STILL can't get used to this new 5.4 with 3.55's...I swear it feels like a 4.6 compared to my 5.4 with 3.73's. Maybe it needs more breakin time, but I can't wait for that, I'm getting pretty antsy...

Hi firsttimeFord,
I notice from your signature line that your new F-150 has the FX4, so I assume you have the ORP (Offroad) package. It's no wonder you have noticed a big performance drop, the ORP gets you the tallest tires of the 3 different sizes available from the factory, and that is on top of the effect of the 3.55 gears, assuming your previous truck wasn't an ORP, of course. One of our F-150's is the same, a 2001 5.4 Lariat ORP configuration w/3.55 gearing.
To give you an idea of just how tall this setup is, at 90 mph you will only turn 2400 rpm in Overdrive. That is just way too tall for a close to 3-ton truck, and is why you feel such a big difference in performance most likely, it's the result of significantly less torque multiplication along with perhaps more weight in this truck.
Personally I believe that the ORP with these 265 17 inch tires should come with 4.10 gearing *standard*.
It does take anywhere from 4000-8000 miles for these engines to fully loosen up and make their best power & mileage, usually you notice it by about 4K-5K miles that it's getting a bit quicker.
Good luck with your new '02 F-150!

Thanks Mike, my 99 did have the ORP with the 265's and 3.73's, and it was night and day difference to my new truck with 3.55's. Like I said, I feel like I'm driving a 4.6 (no offense to 4.6 owners). I'm definitely considering the chip as I think the shifting has a lot to do with it, along with the obvious difference in gears. When I had my FQR installed, they changed my tranny program at the same time and ever since then my 99 was a hot rod. Any chance the FQR had more power than the factory engine?
If you are buying a gallon of gas for $2.00 then that is about $0.528 / litre. (1 gallon = 3.785 liters) If we were to jump the boarder and buy gas there, then it would something like $3.10 CDN by the time we put exchange rate of there !!!! Geez
I WISH our gas cost that much. For Sunoco Ultra 94, it costs me $0.795 / litre right now, so that would equate to $3.01 / gallon CDN. We have seen costs of $0.85 last summer when the gas prices where really high.

Izzy,
Seems you don't get a break no matter which way you go.. My Dad has a place in Canada and tops off in the US, though he admits more out of habit then savings. With the exchange rate compare you guys don't do much worse than the larger cities here in the US.
Then again you are paying about .75 more per gallon (CDN) then I pay in my area. Now let's see... if I get a tanker truck and sell at...... Bootleg Border Gas Stop.... coming briefly to an area near you!
