ecu boards
ecu boards
I wonder if anyone could help. I got a superchip but the ecu board needed a couple of jumpers closed. I tried to do it myself but when I re-installed it (without the chip) it turned over but would not fire. I had a new ecu sent overnight and when I installed that one the same thing happened, no fire. I noticed the software codes do not match. Would this cause the problem? Or is there some trick I should know? Thanks
Oh sh**! Before you do another thing, you need to talk to Mike Troyer. Look in the Computer chips section and look for a thread and or post by Mike Troyer. All his contact info will be shown.
As you probaly know, several of us have had to have jumpers soldered. When the electronics "expert" did mine, he screwed up and had to re-route the jumpers. It works fine.
I am only an expert at not being an expert so, I do not want to say to much, but I think you must have the same computer code for your truck to start and run properly. I wonder why they sent you an ecu that had a different code, when you could have got the same code? Jus ask Mike Troyer, he will be glad to help you.

Hi dhjohns,
There could be any number of reasons for your current no-start. If the new computer is not the exact same catch code (or computer code, as we call it, it means "software revision") as the Superchip is, then the vehicle will not start.
You can get a no-start with the Superhcip installed from a number of causes, improper installation, a code mis-match, a failed Superchip or, in a few early to mid-year 1999 F-150's, a factory jumper misconfiguration as you apparently experienced with your first ECU. It will take some troubleshooting to determine exactly what the real problem is.
I'm not sure I understand you correctly, but if your vehicle is not starting at all, meaning that it will not start even *without* the Superchip installed, then you may very well have a problem that only a Ford dealership or a good local mechanic can really solve for you, as opposed to something we can help you with.
If you give us a call, we can go over all of that with you, and determine if this is something we can help you with or if you'll need to drop by a dealership. We'll need to ask you a number of questions and go over a number of different things, so it's too involved to do here online or in email, the only way to do this is to give us a call. Our contact info is listed below, and our hours are Monday thru Friday from 10 am to 7 pm Eastern time.
Talk to you soon,
