Superchip Install Questions
First of all notice the Cheese eating Grin I have on my face right now?I was able to install the Superchip without a hitch. It was a whole lot easier than I expected. I did not have to remove the battery like some. I did not have a hard time removing the harness or the computer or cleaning the contacts. Based on Mikes' instructions was a breeze.
I have some questions though...
The Superchip was a bit taller than the computer when it was installed. This made the Plastic clip that holds the computer to the firewall impossible to replace.
Is there a recommended way to secure the Computer to the firewall/side panel besides tightening the harness?
OR
Is there a plastic clip that I can buy that fits better?
How do I get rid of this silly grin?
Did you bend or cut the metal bracket that attaches to the truck? I cut mine. The plastic clip should install below where the Superchip is. I don't think it fits as cleanly as it did before the chip but it will hold the PCM in place.
The grin will eventually subside. We get used to how the truck feels with the chip. You will ocationally get the grin back when you put the petal to the metal. This is normal. If you ever have to take the chip out you may experiance a frown
. I think this is pretty common. It is kind of sad to remember how the truck felt before the chip. When you reinstall the chip you will again experiance the grin!
Have fun!

I'm considering the superchip and have a question for you. Where exactly is the computer panel I need to look for to get my code? I've heard that it's at the driver's side kickpanel. If I look at my panel where the hood release is it sure doesn't look like it would cover the computer. What motor do you have? It really felt that good? I want to grin too!
The code is on the PASSENGER side inside the door sill, on the front. It's a three letter, one number such as ABC2, there should be a white sticker about the 1/2 the size of a keyless entry remote. hope this helps.
this however is for 97 and newer f150's, w/ your 94, i'm not sure where it's at. hopefully someone can help you.

Hi Enterceptor,
You need to go back and check this (please
), as the black plastic pressure clip can virtually always go back on. In most cases it simply goes back on a couple of inches lower than where it was originally, usually it goes back on underneath the Superchip. There have been a few that, because of the spacing of the port on the back of the ECU, had to go back on above the Superchip.
We've never had one (knock on wood) that would not go back on in one location or another (either below or above the Superchip) and secure the ECU to that mounting plate, or bracket.
The bottom line is, you need to secure the ECU up against that bracket, or plate, so the back of the ECU cannot move around, without that clip the rear of the ECU can move a bit. The black plastic pressure clip holds the ECU up against that bracket, so the back end of the ECU doesn't move around. In reality, just about anything that accomplishes that will be fine, but I'd try with the clip again, as we've always been able to get them back on. You may have an "odd bird" there, so to speak, though we've never had one, but if so, just use another method to keep the ECU against that bracket (velcro, etc.) & you'll be fine.
Give us a call to go over this in more detail if you like, ok?

Hi drm7,
To find the computer code in the pre-1997 F-150's, open the Driver's door, and then look in the front part of the door frame, in the area of the door hinges, and there you should find a small sticker, usually white, that will have 3 letters followed by 1 number on it, 4 digits total. In other words, it's over on the driver's side instead of on the passenger side like it is in the late-models.
Another place you can try is to look on the ECU's (that's your powertrain computer) wiring harness under the hood. It's just below the brake master cylinder usually, and will have the normal 10 mm bolt they all do in the moddle. This wiring harness "hub" looks like it's doing a dead-end into the firewall, that is actually where it connects to the front of the ECU. There where it meets the firewall, there is sometimes a sticker on the harness itself, and will sometimes have the code on it.
If that sticker is missing, then next you can go to the computer itself, which is mounted behind the Driver's kick panel. Just remove that panel, and you can usually spot a code sticker on the ECU itself.
Worst case scenario, you can always remove the ECU from the vehicle to get a look at the large code sticker that is on top of every Ford ECU, so there's always a way to find the code.
