Caution when installing FLIP/SUPERCHIP..

Just a word of caution as if it happened to me it COULD happen to you.
But I performed a major bone headed move when I re-installed my ECU with FlipChip and reconnected the harness to the ECU, I did not bend, but pushed back into the harness one of the copper pins.
Apparently this pin controlled the transmission so when I jumped in to try out the performance, DRIVE started in 3rd gear, and my overdrive engage/disengage light was flashing.
Not knowing that I had pushed back the pin led me to suspect it was with the Chip programming or I did not clean the contacts enough.

I called Mike, and he spent a great deal of time trouble shooting with me. In fact, even when we figured out what it was that was causing the problem, and his product was not to blame...he gave lent me his ear/knowledge.
Mike and Anita are class acts !....Not condesending, but very helpful and reasuring when assisting me.
When I first came to the boards and read how folks were satisfied with Mike and how his products worked, well, I was a bit skeptical. But I can say having first hand knowledge of using the product and needing customer service....Mike and his team are second to none, and I look forward to doing further business with them.

Am I long winded or what ? Feels like I am standing in the bullypulpit.

Anyhow, I pulled the pin back out using a pair of needle nose pliers, reinstalled the FlipChip, used EXTREME caution when installing and bolting on the harness...and prayed as I fired up the truck.
It started ! Now will it shift properly ? It did !

WHAT A NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE FOLKS !! Man oh man my 01 Expy is a real kick in the pants to drive now. And the kids, myself included, enjoy the additional low throaty sound produced my the AirForce 1.

Bottom line, pay better attention than I did and all else will be fine.

Thanks Mike

Thumbs up Have to agree with Dustoff

Even with my limited dealings with Mike, he has been a wealth of info. I'll be getting an Airforce 1 from him as soon as I save some more $$$.

Hi cgc2,

Excellent, we're delighted to hear it turned out well for you.

As we talked about over the phone, we've had a few people bend a pin over the years, and they can usually straighten it back out and then reattach the harness. It's very rare to have someone do that, but once in a great while, someone will.

Yours was a first, we'd never had a pin get pushed back like that, but theres a first time for everything, of course. The various pins communicate all the various signals to and from the sensors, ECU, engine & automatic tranny, so a bent or pushed pin can cause anything from a no-start to a miss in one cylinder, or the transmission not go into reverse, or, not have 1st gear, etc., it's just a simple problem of the signal not getting thru on that pin. It doesn't hurt anything, and it's easy to fix, but it sure can make you scratch your head!

They key here was you letting us know right away and then working together to find the solution. Your patience & willigness to troubleshoot in an orderly manner helped a great deal, and was what made a simple solution possible.

Thanks for your post, & have fun with your Superchip now that you can really enjoy it!

Hi Badbeat,

Yes, we make Superchips for every model year of F-150, as well as many other FoMoCo & other vehicles.

We'll need to know the computer code of your specific 2002 F-150 to be able to confirm that we have a Superchip available for *your* vehicle, as each Superchip is programmed to exactly match the software revision in each individual vehicle's ECU (powertrain computer). In general, yes, we do have many 2002 F-150 applications available already.

To locate your computer code, just go to the passenger side of the vehicle, open the front passenger door, and then look in the front part of the door frame, in the area of the door hinges. There you should find a small sticker that has a 4 digit code, 3 letters followed by 1 number. UEV1 is one of the more common 2002 5.4 codes lately, and there are numerous others as well. Each model year of the F-150 has hundreds of different factory software revisions, and we make a corresponding performance program for each one of them, as they are released. If for some reason you don't find your code, let us kow, we can help you locate it in other places, just give us a shout.

Once you know what your vehicle's compuiter code is, just shoot us an email or give us a quick call & we'll let you know if we have your code already available. Chances are that we do.

To place your order, you can either give us a call or you can use our online ordering system, the link to which is just below in our signature line.

Congratulations on your new 2002 F-150, & we're glad you joined us here at F-150 Online!
