Question for Mike
Question for Mike
Mike,
Quick question for ya... I've got a '98 4.6/Auto RegCab/Flareside with the FOU1 program. I've got the same problem with the pinging primarilly in colder temperatures as everyone else that I belive is computer related. Ted'98 recently got a chip burned for 87 octane gas that took care of his problem. (Here's a link to the thread)

I would like to get a chip burned with the same corrections for the pinging that would utilize the knock sensor feedback in the timing/fuel curves, but would like to go thru you instead of the company he mentioned. Assuming you can do this, I wanted to know if this could be done on a flip chip setup for 87 and 93 octane gas with the corrections for the pinging on both programs. Would I be better off sticking with either 87 or 92 for some reason instead of doing a flip chip... I would love to pickup some performance with the chip, but would much rather take care of the pinging problem if I had to choose between the two. And last but not least, when I order it, is there anything special I need to mention to get the problem with the pinging taken care of... If you'd rather drop me an email it's chris@downspin.com
Thanks!

Hi STX,
Sure, we can take care of this for you if that is the issue, just give us a call, our contact info is just below.
However, your knock sensor is in fact fully functional, this is just the typical FOU1 problem that about 5% of them exhibit. The FOU1 code was more aggressive, it was made for the 1998 NASTRUCK which was the lightest late-model F-150 made, and in heavier F-150's, it pings even on the factory program on 87 octane sometimes. Just give us a shout & we'll go over this with you in detail, we've taken care of many of those FOU1's.
