Hi geo114,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
Yes, the Superchip will help with towing, as it delivers more horsepower and more importantly, more torque *all* the time, at any throttle position or rpm. The key to towing is low rpm torque, and it's doubly important in these huge heavy trucks, of course.
The Superchip isn't going to make a HUGE difference, it can't make 4500 lbs. feel like 2000 lbs. of course, but it is the moist cost-effective way to get about a 10% power gain, which is why it's so popular.
A performance chip is generally not going to increase mileage by a significant amount. However, many people do see some small gains in mpg when using the Superchip, for towing or for just cruising. Usually the city mileage does not change, too much accelerating & decelerating, so your potential to have the Superhcip raise mpg is going to be primarily on the highway, or anytime you can cruise. It's just a by-product of the increased spark advance used on part-throttle as part of our performance tuning for premium gasoline, so your results will depend on how you operate & maintain the vehicle, as well as the energy content of the fuel being burned.
Please feel free to give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you in detail, so you can give it some thought.
