Computer code was erased, how to get it?
Not erased in the sense of deleted from the computer only from the little white sticker on the truck.
I had my F250 Superduty detailed recently. Unfortunately the shop cleaned the inside of the
driver's door up near the hinge. The small white
sticker that had the 3 letter 1 number computer code was erased by the cleaner they used. I need this code when I order my Superchip. Is this code
specific to my personal vehicle or would other
1999 F250 XLT Superduty 4x4 CrewCab SWB 5.4 trucks have the same computer and hence I could get the code from some nice person who has one?
Thanks,
Jeff

Tuck,
This may not be true with your truck but is with mine, If you know where your ECM or ECU or Computer, whatever you chose to call it is, look at the plug that covers the slot where the super chip will go..my code was there also....
Hope this helps

I may be wrong, but I think the white tape you are talking about is blank. My 2001 is that way, the code you are looking for is on the passanger side. That is because the computer is on the passanger side. Check it out. Hope this helps you.
Ed,
I have not checked yet but you are correct about the code being located there also. I also posted this question to a couple of USENET newsgroups and the replies I received gave the same advice you did. I will double check though.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
No, you cannot use anyone else's code from any other vehicle, even an exact same *identical* in all other aspects vehicle can have dozens of different codes in just 1 model year, so that won't work, you'll need *your* vehicle's code.
OK, on the Super Duty trucks, the computer code and the computer are over on the Driver's side, not on the passenger's side like they are on the F-150's & the light duty F-250's.
If your door frame code sticker has been wiped clean, then you can go to the computer itself, which is mounted just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. You'll see a black plastic shroud there, and the computer is underneath that shroud. There are two 7 mm bolts that retain that shroud, simply remove them, then push that shroud to the right until you can see the back of the computer. On the back of the computer there is usually another code sticker, 3 letters and 1 number.
If you do not have a code sticker on the back of your computer, no problem, you'll just need to remove the ECU from the vehicle to get a look at the large code sticker that is on top of every Ford ECU. It cannot be seen without removing the ECU (that's the powertrain computer) from the vehicle.
To remove the ECU in a Super Duty................
1.) Disconnect *both* batteries if so equipped.
2.) Loosen the 10mm bolt in the middle of the wiring harness for the ECU, that is under the hood on the Driver's side. If you have multiple harnesses, it will be the one closest to the outside of the vehicle. This harness looks like it's doing a dead end into the firewall, that is actually where it connects to the front of the computer. Loosen (do not try to remove!) the 10 mm bolt until you can detach the wiring harness, you'll have to loosen it a good bit.
3.) Go back into the cabin, and since at this point you will already have removed the two 7 mm bolts that hold the black plastic shroud covering the ECU in place from your previous effort to find the sticker on the back of the ECU, you need to finish removing the shroud. At that point, once the shroud is off, just put your palm on the back of the ECU and push the back of the ECU (that's the end facing you, inside the cabin, the front is the end you disconnected the wiring harness from under the hood) over to the right, towards the gas pedal, and it will POP! out of the hole in the firewall, very easy!
4.) There will be a big white sticker on top of the ECU, and it will have several lines of writing on it. The code will be a few lines down, and will be printed on bold capitals so it will stand out.
Replace in reverse order, basically.
Give us a shout if you need a hand with this, or have any problems finding your code!
