Installed Flip Chip

I installed my Flip Chip about a week ago. I am very happy with the results. It was a simple install to. I noticed better throttle response and shift improvements. I also noticed better gas mileage. It is a great investment. Thanks Superchips_Distributor.

Question flip what?

Pardon my ignorance, but, what the heck is a Flip Chip? I know what the Superchip, Diablo and Jet chips are but not a Flip Chip?

It is the Superchip with a 2 way switch on it. Mine is set up for 87 or 93 octain. You can have them programed for other settings to. It is worth the money to install one of these.

re: Flip Chip

Thanks for clearing that up. Question; is there any difference in performance gains with the chip at the 87 octane setting vs. the 93 setting? How much extra is it to get the Flip feature?

Hi Natty,

The policies of F-150 Online prohibit the discussion of pricing issues here on the boards, but if you will follow the link just below in our signature line that takes you to our online ordering system, you can get that information on the price difference between the standard single program Superchip and the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip right there.

Yes, of course there is a difference in how much performance is gained between the 87 octane program and the premium gas program in the Flip Chip.

In the 87 octane program, the power gain is small, about 5 hp or so, but you still have all the other benfits, such as improved automatic transmission shifting, removal of top speed limiters in most of these vehicles, the removal of various delays & retards that hurt performance and powertrain response times no matter which type of transmission you have, etc., so even on that 87 octane program, it will feel better than stock, it will accelerate a bit quicker and the powertrain will be more responsive.

Then when you use the premium gas program, your power gains average about 10% or so. For the 260 hp 5.4 F-150, the maximum gains are 28 hp & 46 lbs./ft. of torque., just for an example. In round numbers, think of the premuim gas program as a 10% power gainer. That premium gas program in the 2-program Flip Chip is the same program you would get in the standard single program Superchip, by the way, in case you're wondering.

If you'd like to go over any of this in detail, please feel free to give us a call, we reopen from the New Year's holiday on Wednesday the 2nd at 10am Eastern.

Happy New Year!

Mike,
Can the flip chip be custom programmed? I have bigger tires and a set of gears installed and I want to get the shift points changed. Thanks.

Hi Chris,

Sure it can, depending on the model year. The 1999's and the 2000 F-150's we can do that on, and we're just now starting to do that on the 2001's as well. For the 1997 & 1998 models, you correct that with a standard reduction gear instead.

It's a custom program of course, and the nice thing about the Flip Chip in that regard is that it's price includes the cost of any custom programming needed at time of purchase. They can also be updated later on too!

Give us a shout for details, our contact info is just below.
