I've done some analysis on this. The difference in price between the superchip and the flip chip is $160. Considering that premium fuel is typically $.20/gallon more than regular, you would need to run approx. 37 tanks of fuel on the 87 octane program in order to make up the cost of the additional price of the flip chip over the non-flip chip. To put this in perspective, you would have to run on the 87 octane program from Jan 1 to September 3 if you fill up on average 1 time/week to make up the additional cost. However, after that it's "gravy, baby!"

Also, most people talk about how the superchip is the best "bang for the buck". I would have to disagree. Again, if you make the assumption of somebody filling up 1 time/week on premium fuel as opposed to regular, you would end up spending approx. $230/year more. But when you look at it on a week by week (or tank by tank) basis, it's only like $4.50 more. So, the question is does the superchip perform at a level that is worth spending 4.50 more everytime you fill up? I don't know, but you can bet your *** I'll be ordering one when it gets a little warmer.

Hi Mike,

Sorry it took me a couple of days to get back to you on this, we couldn't access F-150 Online last night for a long time for some reason, and only got part of our responses done yesterday.

The 2-position toggle switch to change programs on the Flip Chip is attached to the Superchip module by a 2-3 foot long lead, so you mount the switch wherever you want! It's easy to use one of the existing brakets, tabs, etc, under the dash, that's where I mounted mine and put most of them in at, but that is up to you.

You don't "activate" it, you install the Superchip, and it's *always* active, you just select which program you're using if it's the Flip Chip. There is no way to turn it off, you have to remove it for that.

We recommend when you're going to change octanes, run your current tank of fuel down until the low fuel light comes on, and then fill it up with your next octane level, whether you're changed to premium or changing back to regular, do it the same either way. Then flip the switch and you're all set!

If you have other questions, would like to go over this in more detail, etc. feel free to give us a call. To place your order, you can either call us or use our online ordering system, the link to take you there is just below in our signature line.

Hi DrEvil,

The policies of F-150 Online that we all had to agree to in order to be allowed to register to post here prohibit the posting of pricing information, so none of us can go into those details here. But I thought I would point out that if you would like to take a look at our online ordering system, you'll find the price difference between the single program Superchip and the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip is much less with our F-150 Online discount. You can see the correct prices by taking a look at the link in our signature line just below, if you like.

Good luck!

Thanks for pointing that out, Mike. I wasn't aware of the F150Online discount. In that case, the break even point is about 23 tanks of 87 octane.

Hi DrEvil,

I really hadn't ever put it in that particular perspective, talking about # of tanks for a break-even point. That's an interesting way to look at it, I haven't run the math from that standpoint so I can't comment on the accuracy of that number. We've always just looked at the straight dollar cost, how much more people actually spend for gas running the Superchip on premium all the time, versus what they previous spent for 87 octane fuel on the factory program. There we found that it's basically an average of about $100 per 10,000 miles, which is based on the same average of 20 cents per gallon for a cost delta between regular and premium. Within that average is everything from those who drove their vehicles harder with the Superchip and so saw less mileage than before (lower mpg), to those who got excellent mpg gains using the Superchip due to ideal conditions, such as mostly highway driving, very good premium fuel quality, etc., and everything in between.

Thanks for your post!

Question gas question for Mike T

Mike ..........
If you have the Flip chip in ..........and.......... you have a tank of 93 octane in and you decide you want to put in a tank of 87 octane...... but it is not on empty yet ( say you are traveling) would it be better to run it on the 87 program in that situation......

I am just trying to understand how it all works ....... and also what is "BLUE UPS"

How do I get a tracking number or do i not get one with "Blue" shipping

thanks

MIKE

Hi mikebike,

For any information regarding order status, tracking numbers, etc. you will need to contact us privately, off the message boards. Our contact info is just below.

What "UPS Blue" means is 2-business day delivery. So let's say you ordered in time on Monday for it to ship out the same day, then in that case, shipped by UPS Blue, you would have it on Wednesday, 2 business days later. It's important to remember that this is *business* days we're talking about here, not calendar days, so weekends & holiday don't count.

Just give us a shout & we'll be happy to get you your shipment tracking info, etc.!
