do you think it had anything to do with the fact that the webmaster installed his chip in Jan 1998 and this board started in June of 1999. Maybe he just didnt know any better at the time. that was almost 4 years ago.

Hi BROTHERDAVE,

It's a riot that 4X4 would dig up that old link to post. Too bad he couldn't have been a little more honest and posted any of the links to any of the numerous posts of Steve's where he told everyone here that he was switching to the Superchip, right here in this section of the message boards.

The fact of the matter is, Steve liked the Hypertech so much that he asked us to supply him with the Superchip for his truck to replace the Hypertech *years* ago, just as he clearly states in the link that Wittom posted.

Steve also asked us to provide Superchips for several friends of his, and continues to ask us about availability of Superchips for other friends of his as they buy new vehicles on occasion.

As Paul Harvey would say, "and now, the *rest* of the story."

Sorry all, I just noticed this thread...

Actually, the Hypertech was donated to me in the early days of the site in exchange for advertising. It was not a conscious, education purchase. As I have stated many times before, for the most part I am mechanically incompetent and not someone that tends to install a lot of aftermarket parts on my vehicles. (with the exception of audio equipment)

The Hypertech is still installed but by no means "wows" me the way that Superchip tends to affect people here. I would like to replace it with the Superchip someday, which by all accounts is a superior product, but with our current financial situation and a baby on the way (save, save, save) I cannot justify the additional cost of premium fuel. Sorry, Mike.

Hopefully the future will see the installation of the Superchip.

Steve also asked us to provide Superchips for several friends of his, and continues to ask us about availability of Superchips for other friends of his as they buy new vehicles on occasion.
That is very true. Mike was kind enough to supply a Chevy driving friend with a Superchip and he is STILL happy about it! Someday, I hope to replace my Wife's aging Civic with a TL Type S and as soon as there is a Superchip available it will be installed.

Steve

So did you or did you not donate a chip to the webmaster that lets you sell on his site? Thats pathetic if *you* did not.....

I am not sure if I understand this statement and why you seem to be taking an unfair shot at Mike.

Mike was a long-time, loyal advertiser and vocal supporter of this site before we ever discussed his supplying me with a Superchip. If I recall, when we first discussed advertising programs on this site a couple years ago, he *did* offer me a free chip in addition to the monthly fee (not in lieu of), but I turned it down.

I have *never* asked an advertiser for product in exchange for advertising. The point over the past three years of accepting advertising on this site has been to cover the costs of its operation. Free product of any kind would not accomplish that goal. In the early days (almost five years ago), I accepted products in exchange for advertising because the monthly costs were much lower. (see the very outdated project wish-list for example)

Out of pure respect

I figured he would give you a chip, after all you allow him to advertise on your board. As a salesman, I would do whatever makes the customer(you) happy and if that means donating a free chip then so be it...I dont thinks giving one chip up would kill the bottom line...and if you declined and he offered, i understand that as well

4x4,

I think you are confused. Mike Troyer is Steve's customer. Using your logic, Steve should give Mike Troyer something. Regardless, all good business transactions are kept confidential so however the deal went it is none of our buisness......

Kindest regards

4x4, this reminds me of a statement a wise man once told me. "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging"
