Can the chip convince me to keep my truck?
Can the chip convince me to keep my truck?
Ok, here's the deal. I'm shipping off to Navy boot camp in March. For the most part, I've decided to sell my truck as I leave, and get a new car when I'm stationed. That leaves me just about 4mo's until it's I'm gone. Question is, If I'm selling it, should I get the chip? Might it convince me to keep my baby!
Sounds like your selling it for the money, or for the convenince of not having to store it. You will be more poplular with the big truck vs the car (im my opinion, never being in the Navy though). The chip will make the truck much more enjoyable to drive, but your fuel cost will go up. BTW what truck do you have?
The chip may or may not convince you to keep your truck. The thing I think should convince you to keep your truck is all you have into it to this point. If you get another vehicle you will have to start over. If you can afford it, I guess that could be fun.
If you decide to get rid of it, why not get another one when you get back. There are tons of cool cars out there these days. I think you would get the most for your money with a truck. We all know how much these Fords like the upgrades.
Getting a chip with the expectaion that it WILL convince you to keep your truck may be too tall an order. A chip is great. Is it that great? I guess you would find out.
That's just me though.

Hi BJKay's Red F-150,
Well, that's a good question!
Looking at your signature line, you have already done a good bit of work on your 2000 F-150, you've got headers installed as well as a custom Magnaflow exhaust, which isn't cheap. Along with some nice stereo & other mods, you've got some money tied up in this truck above & beyond it's basic purchase price. Given just how extremely "soft" the used truck market is right now, this is not the time to be selling, and *especially* F-150's trade-in values are at, or very close to, an all-time low. They're giving away the new trucks with big rebates and 0% financing, and that has caused Ford to sell more trucks than they ever have before, setting record sales for the month of October. November will be another all-time record sales record for that month as well. Dealers have a glut of almost new lightly used F-150's that have been traded in over the past couple of months, hurting resale value.
To directly answer your question, should you buy a chip now if you're selling the vehicle very soon? I would say that depends on whether you are going to get another Ford vehicle to replace it. If you are, then sure, you can use the Superchip for now, and then have us reprogram it for the replacement FoMoCo vehicle when you buy that one, if you do sell the truck you have now.
I have to say that in all honesty, with all the very nice work you already have done to that truck, I sure would hate to see you take that kind of loss to sell it now or in the near future! I would sell it only if I had no other viable alternative.
Whether you buy a Superchip or not, IMHO, your best bet financially is to stick with your truck. You won't take a loss selling it, you won't lose all the nice mods you've done to it, etc.
Best of luck whatever you decide, & good luck at boot!
