2003 f150 "unable to unlock vehicle" tuner error code

Hello all, as the title states. I have an '03 F150 5.4L I recently purchased a SCT from 5star tuning. upon trying to load ANYTHING I just wanted to correct my gear ratio. After 3 hrs tech help from SCT (per 5-stars recommendation)..no go. error 110BE "unable to unlock vehicle" I send the controller to SCT...they check it out..send it back...no go! I call SCT tech...another 3 hrs trying stuff...no go. Was told to try it on another vehicle...I did..another 02 f150 (same family listing per SCT) call SCT back AGAIN....reply was I must have a wiring problem. "wtf"..
Call 5 Star...they send try to load OUR CUSTOM TUNE.....no go...they swapped out the unit sent me another.....gets better

Plug it in...try the canned fixes....NO GO ....same 110BE code "unable to unlock vehicle". Now i recal when i bought this truck it only had 1 ORIGINAL KEY. I had to have a locksmith "program" me 3 more keys. All were programmed as "masters" (you must have 2 master keys in order to self program any more keys...fyi)

So for ****s and giggles a collected all 4 of my keys...and unbelievably 1 (the last of course) programmed tunes like it was supposed too.

Has anybody else run into something like this with "programmable keys" limiting access???

I'd be willing to bet that the key that worked was the original key.

I agree with glc, and, I'm somewhat willing to bet the new keys you had made are NOT true "masters". If they are, you should be able to program another key with them. Can you?

Any of those other keys "clones" of another? There's really no such thing as a "master" key unless it was used to make clones at a hardware store.

The requirement is probably for two UNIQUE key IDs that have been programmed into the system. A clone doesn't count if it's already programmed in.

my friend locksmith said he would program them as "masters" therby allowing me to self program others in time (the key thing was 8 yrs ago when i bought it) and I have never had to add more keys....but do find it interesting that it would (seems to be) blocking access for ecm reprogramming.

ohh...i get you sho89....i got 1 factory key therefore had to have a locksmith cut and program at least 1 more (i had him do 3 more). All 4 keys fully function...so i thought.
Yes they do need to be programmed to the truck thats why YOU MUST HAVE 2 keys that are PROGRAMMED (via dealer..who calls a locksmith) in order to "self program" additional keys (at home in the driveway..after they are cut)
