Mike, I got the times........
I ran three times friday night. My best:
R/T .638
60' 2.493
330' 7.179
1/8 11.069
MPH 63.31
990' 14.327
1/4 17.261
MPH 79.30
Thought I do alittle better. I know it's a truck, an heavy. I was thinking maybe a HIGH 16. I guess not. Am I missing something here? or does that sound about right, with what I got. Again thanks for getting my chip back in time for me for Friday night. I'm was also thinking the chip didn't program everything it had to put in the computer, since I only got to put 100 miles on it before I raced.

Ram Air - how was your launch? Do you spin the tires? Did you launch from around 1200rpms or from idle?
Your close to high 16's, try and remove some weight from the truck like the tailgate and spare tire and tow hitch (if you have them)

Launched good, very little tire spin. Considering I fried the tires I brought with me. Went from an idle to the r's up. Trying different stuff. I thought about the spare tire, forgot to take it down, the tailgate, put it down. The hitch, didn't even think of that. I guess it wasn't that bad for a 4.6L with all that stuff on there.
Ram air,
I would suggest you change the gears or get smaller diameter tires for the track. With 255/70 R16's I ran 16.39 and my truck weighs more than yours. Then again I have a stick so I can slip the clutch for better traction. The 4.6 is a dog under 3000 rpm regardless of what you do short of adding a supercharger. Since running that time I have added headers and a custom air inlet. I also now have taller 285/70 R16 BFG Mud Terrains so the truck seems slower and most probably is.

I personally would get the gears swapped for 4:10's. This would definitly help your 1/4 mile times and your 60'.
Try launching like this:
Hold brake down and press gas to JUST before the tires spin, and when the tree comes down, brake off, GAS TO THE FLOOR! If you spin, try at less RPMs. You gotta REV that 4.6l up there to get its power.

FAST,
I know your trying to help. But, this isn't the time I ever raced. I know what to do. I've raced Mustangs for quite awhile. Two different worlds here. My 1-69 Mach, 2-71 Machs an a 84 GT. You know what you can do with them. These trucks with there triton motors, there's like hidden horsepower there. Lightnings are a prime example. Couple mods your in the 12's. But thanks anyway.
Ram Air - I didn't mean put the tail gate down, I meant take it off.
Swapping out gears is to much of a pain, JMC's idea of smaller tires is much better, plus you won't burn up your everday tires.
You might want to consider an exhaust, when I had my 97' w/ the 4.6 engine I put on a Borla cat back and it helped out over 3000rpms.

I know you meant take it off. I was just saying I put it down. Next time the spare, the hitch an the tail gate are gone. I had different tires on there. Instead of my 17's, I had a pair of 16's on the back not to ruin my everyday tires. I probably should have switched them all out. I have a full set of 16's I got from a buddy of mine. He has a 98, had the alum. 16's , an bought new rims. I got those for a few bucks, just for something like this. I got an exhaust. Dual flowmasters with an balance tube. I lost some bottom end till I added the balance tube, an got it right back. My next mod is defintely headers. JBA w/jet hot coating. A little steep, but well worth it I think. You know as well as I do, they create alot of heat. The coating can only help.
Hi F-150 Ram Air,
Well, those are actually pretty good times considering how much weight that vehicle is carrying and the powertrain it has to do that with.
To give you an idea, most of the customers we have with 4.6 automatic F-150's with 4X4 & the Offroad package are running times ranging from 19.0-21.0 seconds, at 72-76 mph or so, in bone-stock condition. And of course, a bone-stock 4.6 automatic is only getting about 155 horsepower to the rear wheels, as the 4R70W automatic models will see about a 65 hp in total driveline losses.
So with just a few simple bolt-ons like the Superchip, an airbox kit and your exhaust, you have dropped your ET's and the mph has come up nicely. Do you have any bone-stock or other comparative numbers from any earlier runs?
You mentioned that you have some experience in drag racing with other vehicles, so I wanted to ask, how did you stage? Did you stage as "shallow" as possible? Shallow staging (as compared to deep staging) can trim an easy 1-2 tenths off your ET's, which would put you knocking on 16 second's door. You probably already know all about the effects of staging on ET's due to increased rollout, I'm sure, but I thought I'd just check.
Another thing, did you happen to weigh that vehicle at the track, did they have scales there for you to use? If so, what kind of weight numbers did you see?
Headers will add another 14-15 horsepower on that 4.6, so they're perhaps worth another tenth of a second or so at the strip. You might also want to take a look at converting over to electric cooling fans, and installing a set of underdrive pulleys. I know that JMC was *very* happy with the results he got from installing headers on his truck, it seemed to have helped his truck more than most others. Then agian, he's also got a custom Superchip with a considerably higher rev limiter, as well as a manual transmission. so he can wind it out until the body panels fall off.
Your short time was almost 2.5 seconds, which, for a 17.26 ET actually isn't bad at all! Most people who have F-150's capable of runing in the high 13's rarely get lower than about a 2.0 short time, and many people running high-14's are doing well to get a 2.20 short time, in these F-150's.
If you want that truck to come out of the hole harder, you might want to think about a good aftermarket higher stall speed torque conveter, I'm using one myself, and it made my truck come out of the hole *much * harder, without any noticeable increase in slippage in normal driving, or any drop in normal driving fuel mileage, etc., it was an *excellent* choice. I'd be willing to bet you can drop 3-4 tenths off your times with just the torque converter in that vehicle, with traction. But of course, a torque converter isn't something you can bolt on in an hour, it's going to take about 2.5 hours to drop the tranny and install it and get it buttoned back up & refilled with fluid.
Heck, you know all of this stuff, I'm sure, so I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
What kind of weather did you have, do you have any idea as to temperature or humidity, etc.?
And yes, by all means, next time get the trailer hitch assembly off of there, that's well over 50 lbs. all told someone mentioned, and run it with 1/4 tank of gas in it as well. Just those changes, along with a little bit cooler weather, will have you into the high 16's pretty easily.
Watch out, it's a progressive disease!

something fishy with your times. the time in my sig was in full street weight with spare tire, tailgate and me
. it was the very first time i ran my truck and i haven't beaten it yet. but i also have not gone since my newer mods. i think with my other mods i've picked up another .150-.210 in my times. i hope i can get at least a 16.990.
i think i'm lighter than you, which would explain your times. well, good luck!
