'03 5.4 Trition Chip

I'm wanting to increase acceleration/responsiveness without decreasing gas mileage. Increasing the mpg would be a great plus though. One congested major road in town that's 55 mph causing wrecks as people get frustrated with waiting for an opening.

The few chips I looked at were reasonably priced (

What is your question? It's called a tuner, not s chip.

What you want is a programmer with tunes. I'd recommend a SCT X4 from one of the reputable tuning houses mentioned here. Chip replacements are a thing of the past.

Sorry. Something with the iOS update that likes to delete nearly whole sentences at times...

I looked at a few options for tuners (guess at 43 I'm a bit older as they were chips last I knew) and the ones I saw didn't cost all that much (

I see it did it again...

Though they were cheap they didn't seem to increase much.

One thing I noted with the SCT X4 (and a previous one) is that they allow for different tires, which would be nice as I changed mine to slightly taller ones. It would be nice to know exactly how fast I'm going when it reads 65 or 70.

I also noted that you can change the gear shifting. I'm a bit curious how changing this might be beneficial for either acceleration or fuel economy vs leaving it stock.

The cheapest option would be a used Superchips. You can program it for low octane or high octane. With it you can change transmission shift points, how hard it shifts, and adjust for tire size. For a stock engine it does very well. I've been given a hard time on this site for saying this but I got an estimated 20 hp increase on the low octane program and a bump in fuel mileage with the Superchips. It works for me.

I tried changing the transmission settings and put it back to stock.

The best solution is custom tunes from a tuning house that knows F-150's, which I don't think you can get with Superchips. That's why I recommended SCT.

better mpg is pie in the sky.

i have had 3 vechiles tuned and at best the mpg is, was, the same.

the best thing I can tell anyone wanting a tune is that, when done correctly, the shifting and down shifting is greatly improved,

I did an 87 tune for my f250 , 6.2 and it is night and day. for a work truck i could not justify having to run 91 plus octane all the time.

the 6.2 in the 250 vs my f150, the f250 needed help in the shifting department...bad.
