edge evolution update

Just received a new edge evolution for my 06 f150. I was told by a friend who bought a used one that the first thing I should do before installing it is to down load the most current software online. Is this necessary?

Yes. Who knows how long the thing has been sitting on a shelf in stock? They ARE obsolete, y'know.

I'm aware there are better versions out there. Not looking to blow my new tires off. Just want firmer shifts and correct for bigger tires. But thanks

I think MGD is being a bit "harsh" with his comment about the Edge. You (and I) also have "obsolete" trucks, so it's probably a good match. He's right though about updating the software/firmware. Do it once and you shouldn't have to do it ever again unless some update is released that corrects some drivability problems you might be having.

You might want to think about getting in touch with Bill Cohron at PHP: http://store.gopowerhungry.com/ He can modify one or more of the canned tunes in that device with custom tunes that are specifically tailored to your driving style. When he put custom tuning on my Edge, it improved my gas mileage by about 0.5 mpg.

But, until or unless you get custom tuning, I recommend you use the Level 2 tune, which is supposedly designed for towing but is actually a very good all-around daily driving tune.

May want to listen to Sir Jack:

IF you want to be truly happy, get on the PHP website and fill out that tuning order form.

On the topic of obsolescence - simply, my point was the 15051 no longer appears on the Edge "Performance Tuning" page - they are effectively 'Legacy' devices - hence IMHO the units are now largely shelfware...and likely don't have current firmware or calibration information. Nothing more was implied or intended - certainly nothing derogatory against yer (our) 'Legacy' trucks, lol.

It did everything I was expecting firmed up my shifts and calibrated for my tires. So I'm happy. When I end up buying a high tech new truck I will probably purchase a betier tuner to match.

Hi, this thread seems to be in the right ballpark for a few questions...

Bought a used Edge Evo CS and installed it into my truck. '06 F-150 5.4. Ran it on my PC and updated it, and put it in. Set it immediately to Towing, as I still have 1/2 a tank of regular left. Excited to try Extreme.

My question is, I didn't notice any difference l, AT ALL in shifting or power in tow mode. I'm interesting in saving a few bucks in my gas budget but also was really looking forward to some more power. Am I doing something wrong?

Second question... If I wanted to try Extreme level, is it going to cause problems without high octane? Or should I play it safe and wait til I gas up?

Thanks.

EDIT - couple of things I should add. My truck is near stock... Levelling kit and a SISO magnaflo exhaust. Wanted to start with a chip before moving on to the next thing.

Actually - you should have created yer own new thread. Different programmer, different issues. Please - Don't threadjack.

On to ye issues:

1. What were ye expectations? Some folks never do tell a difference - it IS a 6,000 lb brick of a truck. A ~15-20HP difference isn't all that noticeable.

2. Did you CONFIRM yer GR & TS? (In other words, did you read the manual first?)

3. Did you make any other changes?

4. Does ye truck have any pre-existing mechanical/electrical/drivability issues? This will affect results. Programmers are not band-aids.

5. You CANNOT run the Extreme tune on 87! IF you had RTFM, you'd already know this - the Caution language regarding this is quite explicit.

6. You bought a dead-end device. Unlike the feller above you who has a 15051 Evo, yer CS will Never be able to accept custom tuning from PHP. Hence you will be stuck with the unremarkable canned calibrations, and never realize the potential of the platform.

7. Repeat 10 times: Research Before Purchase.

Best of luck .

Just came across another thread with more info. Could've just pointed me in that direction rather than making me feel like an a-hole. Thanks though.

Lemme guess - this one: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ghlight=finger ... Sure looky farm-iliar t' ol' Bubber Try not to 'jack that one too, lol.

Just keep in mind that the settings are specific to the 15051, and not necessarily yer CS. In fact some settings are missing on yours.

EDIT - just so you know - the programmer you have cannot accommodate mods like CAI's, or power adders like blowers or cams. For that you require a custom-capable device. Like an SCT X4.

As fer ye 'a-hole' comment. That would be entirely your perception. Over which I have exactly zero control. I'm not here to handhold you or anyone else. Deal with it.

Adult truck forum, reckon. Scary, eh? Boo-hoo
