I have started some tuning with SSI for my old 5.4. We are currently working on the base tune which is a 91 octane tune. Shawn explained to me that he needs a "base tune" to go off so he can dial in the performance tune and the tow tunes that I have requested. I am on my 4th tune now and it is very good. The main issue was the drive by wire and we needed to get that sorted out before progressing. What I wanted was a linear pedal with a stock like feel for the initial "tip in" because I wanted to be able utilize the tunes in the winter (slippery) months. I am looking forward to taking the next step and data logging and then optimizing the tuning. As far as the transmission goes this current tune is excellent, very smooth, very quick and very well timed. MPG = best I've got so far. I should add I am using 91 octane "winter" gas which is crap and usually takes my MPG down significantly.

SSI tunes are truly custom.

I would encourage anyone on the fence to at least make a phone call to SSI.

Thanks for the update cheef. Winter gas can be a challenge for a performance tune but Shawn will get you dialed in. I wish I had known about SSi when I still had a 5.4, I might still have my last one.

Have not had a lot of time to be on the internet lately unfortunately. Anyway, I sent some datalogs to SSI and in less than a day I received a polished up tune. Let me keep this real simple, this is the strongest tune I have. This tune was customized for me from the start which is why it is also my favourite tune. As you know I have tried a few tuner companies out and although my experiences have been for the most part positive this SSI tuning is the best for me. MPT's 93 race tune I have is excellent as well and Mike was great to work with. It's not my style to slam anyone and I respect these tuning companies for the hard work they do. So far my fuel economy is outstanding and I don't drive for fuel economy. I just completed a 160 mile highway trip in minus 15 celsius snowy, blowing weather and I averaged 14L/100km which is by far my best MPG at this time of year.

I am aware of some of the controversy on the "innernet" regarding SSI. My experience has been very positive and I tip my hat to Shawn for his excellent tuning and extremely fast turn around times.
