A real brain buster for Mike.....

Well, not really... what dont you know about these things????
Just the same old questions.........
At what RPM do you achieve the 26HP and 40 ft lb of torque? I have a 98 4.6 automatic 4x4 with an intake and exhaust. I am desperatly in need of some more power. The most embarrasing thing happened to me the other day that convinced me to get a chip. I pull up next to this kid in a Lumina LTZ. Yes, a 4 door grocery getter. Well the light turns green and we both mash the throttle. I got the jump on him but he eventually passed by me . I had my foot to the floor because he kept pulling away from me. I was so ashamed so I turned down the first side street and wept. Any suggestions to prevent this from happening?? (besides supercharging)

Also my buddy was showing me a Micro tuner from Superchips for his Chevy but did not know if there was one for Ford. Is there one available and if so is it better than a Chip?? I am also in need of better performance from my transmission because I cannot stand how it shifts.

Hi Black,

The horsepower and torque peaks are at about the same place as the stock peaks basically, so the max horsepower gain happens at about 4900-5000 rpm on the chassis dyno (even though some factory specs state a 4500 rpm peak hp point), and the peak torque gain is about about 3300 rpm. In round numbers, think of the Superchip as a 10%-12% power gainer.

Another thing to remember is that while the peak gains are where I mentioned, you are going to have about 10% more power on tap at any rpm from 1000 rpm on up, and at any throttle position, so your overall performance & driveability are always better, and you have more power *all* the time, not just at higher rpms or when you have your foot hard into the throttle.

Basically, as far as the engine is concerned, the vehicle will feel like you picked up about 10%-12% more motor under the hood, that is about the best way to describe the results from installing the Superchip.

And yes, we do indeed take care of the rather slow & sloppy shift characteristics of these automatic transmissions, you'll definitely be pleased with what we do there. All of the various delays & retards are removed, & shifts firmed in direct relation to the amount of throttle opening you give it; it's a very nice calibration that makes the powertrain noticeably more responsive.

The Micro Tuner is currently only for the 1996 & newer GM vehicles whose computer design *requires* that more expensive type of device. That type of device doesn't get you any more power or functionality, etc., it's simply a different way of getting the performance program into the powertrain computer as required by that particular type of powertrain computer found in the 1996 & newer GM vehicles.

When the design of the Ford computer changes to require that type of device, then Superchips will release that type of unit for those Fords, but it's not going to make any more power than a traditional Superchip, and it's going to be more expensive, due to the added complexity associated with this type of communications device.

To go over all the various details, etc., please just give us a quick shout, our contact info is just below for your convenience, & we'll be hapy to go over all of that with you.

Don't let that Lumina bother you too much, we can take care of that for you. Thanks for your post & your humor, we look forward to speaking with you!

Hey thanks for that quick response, You answered all of my questions and them some. I will have to order up one of these bad boys and race every Lumina I see just to regain my self esteem. Thanks Dr. Mike for the prognosis. Your information is invaluable to this board.

You're very welcome, that's kind of you to say.

I've been called a lot of things here over the years, most of them nice, some not-so-nice, but I think this might be a first to be called "Dr."

Have fun!
