Major Problems with Superchip!
Ok started to come home today and the truck just dies, no steering and all the gauges light up. This is in the parking lot so I put the truck in park and start it right back up put it in drive go about 20 yards and the truck does the same thing so I turn the key off and start it up again. I get on the highway and go about 2 miles and it dies again, in traffic with no steering! Luckily there's a place to turn into without holding up the traffic, although I had basically no steering. I roll in the parking lot and turn the truck off again and start it back up again hoping that I can make it home without having to remove the Superchip. I finally got home but all the way here my rpm gauge with going crazy but it didn't ever die on me again. The Superchip is in place and nothing has been messed with. It has done this a couple of other times but just didn't seem to notice until it happened to me on the highway. I think I might remove the Superchip until I find out what is going on. I'm assuming this is the Superchip and I have no idea what is going on!?!? Mike T. you're probably the man on this one, need help!

Hi Harleyboy
Sorry you had a problem.
I did to, but was lucky i got Mike T. on my first call, and did get my problem resolved.
If you got chip from Mike T. give him a call.
Your post wasnt clear to me about earlier problem. Happened a couple othertimes, you didnt notice until getting on hi-way? Was that with or without the chip?
Havent had any problems with my schip, but yeah, that would be the first thing id pull if i experienced what you did. Nice feature on the schip, not hard to remove.
BTW...My 99SC has steering even if engine is off, it just takes more than 1 hand to turn wheel
Good luck OT

just a thought
I have thought of having a 5/16 wrench (to disconnect the battery) in the truck so if I did have a problem while I was on the road I would be able to see if the Superchip had anything to di with it. Fixing a problem often requires a process of elimination. I think that the chip is the place to start the process.
I really don't know much about what is inside the Superchip. I would think that being that there is just a circuit board (and I would guess there is very little voltage) that the possibility of it causing a malfunction is slim. The flip chip may be more complicated, I don't know.
Harley Boy, I hope you get the problem taken care of quickly and easily.
Good luck.
Tom

Sorry Mike but the first thing I could think of when I got home was to post hoping that you would read it tonight and give me a quick fix since I can't stand to drive the truck without the Superchip! I will call tomorrow and hopefully I can get ahold of you and we can fix this problem.
Old Timer, my earlier problem happened on my DIRT road which I hate, anyways it died and basically did the same thing that it did today but it started right back up and I didn't think too much about it but today it kinda scared me! It never did anything like this before I had my Superchip so I figure it has something to do with it. Thanks for the support guys!

Hey there,
I had a buddy have the same problem and it could have been two things that I found on his truck. One, the connector to the computer isn't in all the way. his was loose as heck, he thought he got it in all the way but didn't. Also when I looked at the computer he didn't trim the mounting plate and the chip was being wedged by the plate. I corrected these two things for him and he has never had a problem since. Hope this helps. I am sure Mike will have some insight for you when you talk to him as well.....

I had the same problem but it was a dirty (carbon) throttle body, got it cleaned by Ford and no more problems. Hope this helps! WarEagle

Hi Harleyboy,
OK, no problem, we understand.
We know exactly how it is when you need an immediate answer, etc., and we *want* to be able to get you that help just as quickly as we possibly can.
Thanks very much for calling today; it was a pleasure to be able to speak with you again, and I think going over what we discussed should eliminate that problem right away, and of course, please let us know if it doesn't.
For those others who responded to Harleyboy with your help & suggestions, etc. thank you all very much for helping him, *that* is what makes F-150 Online the best Ford truck enthusiast web site on the Internet, that willingness to share relevant information and/or help others in a jam. Thank you , one and all!
For those wondering just what the problem actually was, it's most likely just a simple matter of his Superchip coming a bit loose from driving on the rough dirt road he travels on sometimes(until recently, we did too!), as the Superchip wasn't taped in place in this particular installation, and from talking with the owner I think it's a simple matter of being a connection-related problem. He just needs to re-seat the Superchip and then tape it in so that it cannot back off slowly over time from the vibration, bumps, etc. he has to go thru in his area. Over time, in a situation like this, it's possible from enough bumps, vibration, etc. to have the Superchip slowly work a little bit loose on the connector over a period of time, and that will cause those types of symptoms. This is why, anytime we install them in a pickup truck, SUV, or anything with 4WD, we'll use tape also, purely as a precautionary measure, and this case is an excellent example of why. This is rarely to never needed on any normal passenger car, but any pickup truck, SUV, or 4WD vehicle should do that to prevent any problems in offroad use or in case you have a vehicle impact event of some kind, etc. A simple problem with a simple solution.
Good luck Harleyboy & please let us know if you have any more problems!
