No Luck
No Luck
Well, here it is almost 5 am, about 5 hours after attempting to install my superchip (bought used), and I'm no better off. I know the contacts are clean, went over them oh, about a million times! I know the engine code matches. And I know I connected everything right because my truck has started repeatedly after trying the chip, then without, again and again. I'll admit I didn't get that mounting bracket off yet. Started, realized it's a pain in the a$$, then convinced myself, that wasn't the problem, and cleaned the contacts again! I guess I'll have to try it later on. If it doesn't work, I sure hope I can get some assistance from Mike T. Going to bed now.
It is kind of a pain. Patience! That is what it takes.
I was all worried about breaking something. When I was cleaning the contacts I kept thinkink I would slip and run the little eyeglasses screwdriver across the board. Yes, I'm a bit neurotic.
Everything turned out fine for me.
I think something that would help is a set of instructions from Performance Products. Thats where I got my Superchip. The instructions that come with the chip really arn't all that thourough. The additional set that came with mine made all the difference.
It is a bit of work to get the thing in but I think it pays off in the long run.
Good luck.

Hey Baddgene
If you cleaned those contacts a million times, it aint never gonna work.
Just kidding, but you didnt overclean did you? That can be just as bad as undercleaning.
I did modify the mounting bracket as posted here, but my s chip worked with or without that fix.
Good luck, hopefully itll turn out to be something simple, but, dont let it do you in. Keep us posted. Thanks.
Good luck. OT

I give up!
When I did the bracket fix, I saw how it could affect the chip. So, needless to say, I was excited. BUT, still didn't work! Relooked the connectors, and tightened everything pretty good, and the truck still failed to start. Took out the chip, and she starts right up. Maybe saving a few bucks wasn't so good after all. Will call on Mike T for help!
Jumper?
Mike will come along shortly I'm sure, but I've read about certain cases where a jumper was not correctly soldered on the PCB during manufacture. If you have an affected model year, and I don't know which years offhand are affected, you will also see a no start condition. Mike can give you the info on this, but the good news is that it can be easily fixed if needed.
I'd still be inclined to check the connections again... Look at the contacts and try to scrape them with a screwdriver, pin, awl, etc. If anything comes up you've got more cleaning to do. Check the connector of the chip to see if it might be gunked up with coating that have come off. Tap it on a table, connector side towards the table to see if anything comes out of it.
Just a few ideas to help get you going.. Good luck.

Hi baddgene,
Hang in there my friend, there is going to be an answer.
I'd suggest giving us a call, and we can go over a number of things with you to see if we can get this solved for you.
Anytime a vehicle fails to run with the Superchip installed, there is always a reason, and always a solution.
It could be that your vehicle's computer was reflashed to a different code at some point in it's life, and you may not even know about it. Or, it could be a simple connection-related issue. Or, it could be that there is something wrong with the Superchip, it could be any number of things, but they can all be checked, to get to the bottom of this.
Obviously, there are some inherent risks to take & things you give up when you buy something used, as you're quickly finding out teh hard way, and I'm sorry you're having to go thru that. However, the Superchip is generally a very reliable product, and there's going to be a reason why this is happening, so hang in there and give us a call.
We're here Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7pm Eastern time, so just give us a call when you can, & we'll try to help you with this.
