Question For Mike T.
Hiya Mike,
I have a question for you regarding the Holley Thunder supercharger. I installed one on a guys 99 F-150 extended cab and I must say it smokes the lightning in town.
My biggest question and concern is this. It puts out almost 7 psi of boost. I was wondering, with this much boost, would it be detrimental to a totaly stock engine. The chips for these come from super chips and I thought you may have a little insight on the operation of the supercharger with the chip.
I was thinking of getting one but that amount of boost seems a little high to me for a stock engine , internals at least. I do know that running it hard on any engine would be detrimental but just occasional runs at max boost is what I am wondering.
I hope all is going well with you and yours and hope to hear from you soon. Take care mike...Eric

Hi ecm747x,
Great to see you again!
Yes, Superchips worked with Holly on the tuning of that setup, and while some of the street blower kits peak at about 6 PSI, a number of them wil go to 8 PSI, and that's usually fine.
Heck, we've got one fellow with a custom blower on his 4.2 V-6 F-150 running 12 PSI of boost on the stock motor, and making 340 horsepower! He's been running it for almost 2 years with no problem at all.
I agree, there is certainly only so far you can go with stock pistons, etc. and 8 PSI is generally a safe limit with proper tuning. The main thing is to insure proper A/F ratios, a good timing curve, and don't get too crazy extending the RPM rnage, and most motors will live with a fair amount of boost. 8 PSI is generally fine, as long as it's tuned correctly.
Thanks for your post, everything is going well, & we've added a 2001 Lightning to the stable around here!
Hope all is well with you & your family Eric, & keep in touch!

Thanks Mike,
Yes I saw your addition of a Lightning. I would have gotten one but my 6'6" frame needs the extra room and I didn't fit in a lightning as well as I wanted.
Thanks for your input on the question. I really like the way the Thunder performed in my buddies F-150. I am seriously thinking about putting one in. I may wait till next summer and see if any updates come about due to it being so new. I just want to make sure the reliability is there. As with most ( not all but most) Holley products reliability comes with the name. Just want to make sure is all before spending 5K for it.
I will be adding a Mustang to the stable next year. The wife wants one. If she doesn't change her mind. I am sure I will be modding it some for her. She likes power..lol
Talk to you later on Mike and have a great time with that lightning....SO was it for the wife?...LOL

Hiya Mike,
I have pretty much narrowed my decision down to the ATI procharger. For the money I think it will work the best for me.
If I send in my chip to you can you reprogram it to fit the P-1sc super charger with the the 9 psi boost? Just want to make sure I won't run into a detonation problem with it. From all the info I have gathered and the 9.0:1 comp. ratio I have on my truck I should be safe especially with the intercooler.
I hope to order it within a month or so. Just looking at prices right now.
I hear you have been doing some chips for Crash and his ATI applications....
regards..Eric

Hi ecm747x,
Sure, we can always do a custom program for a blower, we have literally hundreds of "blown" F-150's running everything from ATI's to Powerdynes to Vortech's to Magnachargers to Holly Thunder kits to you name it!
Give us a coupla weeks of advance notice, as we'll need to send you the custom program worksheet for you to fill out for tuning purposes (it's basically a mechanical configuration worksheet detailing all mods).
I hear you on the size thing, I'm only about 6 feet (used to be 6'1" until back surgery!) tall, so the Lightning is actually much more spacious in terms of room for the driver than I ever thought a short-cab could be. It may be a stretch for a 6'6" fellow, so I can understand perfectly.
In fact, this kept me from buying a Lightning a couple of years ago when they first came out, I decided that the only way I could get one, because it was a short cab, was for a "toy", and that being the case, I would only get it if I could get A-plan on it. No dealer on the East coast that I talked to would take A-plan papers on a 1999 or a 2000 Lightning when they were new, so it had to wait until the 2001 model year, when they made more and now they're sitting on lots all over the country. The first 2 years, they all sold for high prices, but now in it's third year, right now is a great time to buy a Lightning, any dealer will make a deal on it, just about.
Have fun & good luck on your blower decision!
