Hypertech vs. Superchip

Have done a search and came up with nothing, am thinking about a flip chip but wondered about the Hypertech Power Programmmer 2. I have changed my tire size so this feature would be an added bonus to correct the speedo, but wondered about how complicated to program and the performance gains between the two. Not meaning to offend Mike T.

Hi jimrvz,

Thanks for your post, & please don't wory about "offending" me, you have a right to ask whatever questions you feel you need to in order to get the information you need to help make your decision.

Hypertech's tuning just doesn't compare to the Superchip. They're all generic, meaning only 1 program for all similar vehicles, and they only tune at full-throttle, where there are no emissions standards that have to be met.

The Superchip is not going to correct your speedometer in a 1998 or earlier F-150, as for 1998 & earlier F-150's, all you need is the correct $17 reduction gear in the tailshaft of your transmission to recalibrate your speedometer. We don't do speedo calibrations until it has to be done in the ECU, which starts with the 1999 model year.

The Superchip is going to add more power than the Hypertech, noticeably so, and in addition, the Superchip works *all* the time, adding power at *all* throttle positions from 1000 rpm on up, regardless of throttle position. Simpy put, it's a far superior optimization of the powertrain program, and it's made for *your* vehicle.

If Hypertech had something superior, we'd be selling it, as we don't care about the name on the box, what we care about are the actual results, which are determined by the quality of the powertrain program itself. They do not have the quality of powertrain programming skills or get the results that Superchips has & does, so we do not carry them.

Also, the Superchip doesn't require any "gimmicks" like an abnormally cold thermostat, as most of Hypertech's applications require.

All in all, I would suggest just using the Superchip (or the Flip Chip, if you want to have 2 programs at the flip of the switch), and recalibrate your speedometer with the correct reduction gear from any Ford dealer.

If you'd like to go over this in greater detail, please feel free to give us call, we're happy to speak with you.

Best of luck whatever you decide,
