5 Star or PHP Tuners

Wanted to get your opinions on these two companies. I've read lots about both but thought I'd ask here. Pulling the trigger today or tomorrow.

2008 F150 SCREW 5.4L 4x4 with 6" ProComp lift. Running 35/12.5/20s

They are both excellent writers of tunes. The better question is what hardware? If you want gauges, which I did, then you want Edge hardware and PHP tunes those. If you want SCT hardware, they both tune those but I would use 5 Star.

Well after talking to PHP it sounded like they were trying to talk me out of custom tunes which struck me kind of funny.

Probably because they do not write custom for the newer Edge products, only the Edge Evolution. It's a problem with the Edge platfrorm. The Evo is what I would want anyway, for a 2004-2008.

That is the one I would want, but it was my understanding they still provided custom for that one. If they can't then I would probably go with an SCT from 5 Star. I would prefer a custom tune over the canned, but I sure would hate to not have the gauges. I monitored engine temp, transmission temp and voltage plus a digital speedometer.

Thanks. I have a local shop that has a dyno that I may just have them do a custom tune on it so I know that it will be for my truck and not something that could mess up down loading on a my computer.

Just make sure they have a good rep tuning Ford trucks. Just because they are successful with Mustangs does not mean they can do a truck correctly.

I think these work with your model year and give you gauges. Verify with 5star. Mike can probably bundle the custom tunes, device and intake for you. 6 custom tunes would offer a nice variety.
