edge evolution/gryphon & dealer flash

I did some searching but did not completely find my answer.

I have an edge evolution and have a few custom tunes from php. I am using it in my 2008 f150 fx4.

I brought my truck in for some work and reset it back to stock. I received a call and was asked if I wanted the PCM flashed because there was an update for my truck. I said yes.

I was under the impression that saying yes is ok as I have reset it back to stock. I guess my question now is when I get the truck back and plug in the edge and set it to the custom tow mode will it screw anything up?

Also, when I set it to tow mode and the edge saves the PCM settings, will it save the updated setting from ford?

You will have to have the custom tunes updated if your Hex code changed during the PCM flash. I also have an 08 FX4 and just had my PCM updated to fix a transmission shift issue (TSB 08-14-03). My hex code did change during that process, which is why I waited until afterwards to order my custom tune from PHP.

I think they can work with you to update those. If you look on this page http://www.gopowerhungry.com/_produc...products.shtml, there's a bullet item that says "Rewrite Custom Calibrations to Work with a New HEX Code".

Hope this helps. I'm a newbie to Gryphon and custom tunes, but I did get my custom tune less than a week ago so I'm very fresh on knowledge....

First, when you hook the Edge/Gryphon back up, it will most likely not recognize the PCM strategy for your custom tunes. You will most likely have to get modified tunes from PHP. Once you have the proper revisions, when you try to download the new stock strategy, it will download properly.

Now if you have an Edge with just the canned tunes and it happens to contain the new strategy as one of it's options, it will function as before it was reflashed. If it does not contain the new startegy, you would need to get an update fron Edge.

With your custom programs, you will need to contact PHP.

Ok, I'm a bit confused as to what I need to do.....

The short of it....

Truck was returned to stock from custom tunes. Truck was brought to dealer and PCM was reflashed. Had tunes recalibrated to match the new HEX and now the new recalibrated tunes are ready to download.

I am ready to put the recalibrated tunes on the Evo.
1) Is there anything I need to do with the previous custom tunes on the Evo OR
2) do I just connect to the PC and update the Evo through Pegasus?

Currently on the Evo: 1) Custom Tow 2) Custom Performance 3) Canned economy
Recalibrated ready to download: 1) Custom Tow 2) Custom Performance

Another question...
Am I wrong to assume that the STOCK setting on the Evo right now is from the previous PCM/HEX? How does the Evo obtain the new STOCK setting from the newly reflashed PCM/HEX? Is it when I plug the Evo in the truck and apply a custom tune that the new stock settings will write over the old stock settings still in the Evo?

Can you tell I am a bit nervous performing this? Haha! I just don't need the headache of trying to undo a mistake when I have very limited knowledge of the application.

I appreciate the responses so far.

I have not kept up with the changes since I no longer have the Gryphon and I know there have been some. Just not comfortable telling you what I think. You need to go on PHPs site and ask those questions or PM JackandJanet. He is up to date on the downloads.

Since your programmer is at stock, it is ready to accept the new custom tunes. You should connect it to Pegasus and then click on [Updates]->[Custom File Download (Internet)] to do this. Once the tunes are installed, you should be ready to reconnect the programmer to your truck.

Another question...

The new tunes have reset the hex code that the programmer is expecting. When you connect it to your truck, and it sees the new hex code, it should download and store your new current stock tune. I think it will do this just before it loads any new custom tune you decide to load, but I could be wrong on this detail.

My answers to your questions are in bold, I don't blame you for being nervous. As long as the programmer boots properly, (plug it in with the truck's ignition switch ON, engine off) it should display the new hex code. If it does this, things should proceed from there without incident.

The only problems you might have would be due to a corrupted download from PHP, and in that case, the programmer would simply not work. You'd need to call PHP to get that fixed.

Hope this helps.

if the hex code changed, you'll need new tunes

If you read his second post, he says the tunes were recalibrated and include the new HEX.
