edge question...

Hello. I did some searching (theres soo much to look through though) but didnt find anything in particular...

I have a 4.6 w/ 35s. stock gearing (i know i know... should regear)

It shifts a LOT.. The slightest incline and its shifting... and it revs pretty high before it shifts.

I have no tuning experience. I'm on level 2 right now running 89... I've entered the correct tire size into the edge.

Question - anything I can do to get it to chill out on the shifting so much? Also, should I be running 89? Thought level 2 required it but everything I read looks like 87 is OK..am I wasting money with 89?? Or should I leave 89 and advance timing by 1*?

Thanks for any and all advice!! I just feel like that is killing my tranny and probably my mpg..

Only gearing will help you with your shifting issues.

First, you do NOT need to use 89 octane gas for the Level 2 tune. You're wasting money if you do.The only tune needing higher octane gas is Level 3, and it needs 91+ octane.

Now, the shifting part. You can lower the speeds that part throttle up and downshifts occur and you can do the same with the torque converter lock and unlock points. This is done in the custom options menu. Doing this will get you into the higher gears sooner, and will tend to keep you there longer. I've done this because, like you, I didn't like the constant down shifting and torque converter unlocking on hills. But, your larger tires are contributing to this too, so you may not be able to get things to your liking without regearing.

Anyway, change the part throttle up/downshift points by -2, -3 and -5. Those are the max settings. Change the torque converter unlock/lock points by -2, -3, -5 and -10. Again, those are the max settings.

This will not effect your WOT shifting, just the part throttle (ordinary driving) shifting and will force the engine to "lug" just a little. It won't hurt it.

If those settings are too much, back off on them a bit.
