My Opinion.
I have 98 4.2 V6 with a 5 Speed trans. and I love the performance gains I got from the SuperChip. If it is as good as it is with a 5 Speed, I can only imagine it would be even better with an automatic. You would be able to see, or feel, the difference in shifting as well as the HP gains. Also, I have the extended cab so my truck is a liitle heavier than yours. Here is the best endorsement for the SuperChip....My wife noticed the difference, and she doesn't notice anything unless it says Coach or something like that. There is a thought Mike T., put designer labels on all the Chips and our wives will be more apt to let us buy them!!!!
Hey 12vRep & Lightningcrashz,
Stop, you guys are cracking me up, designer chips, that's too funny, I agree! And 12vRep, thanks for the package, looks great!
Hi RedFlarside2000,
To answer your question, the 4.2 V-6's respond very nciely to the Superchip. The 4.2 has a particular characteristic of being weak below 2500 rpm, even though is have a decent peak power output of 205 horsepower stock. The Superchip helps that out noticeably, as well as adding a maximum of 25 horsepower and 31 lbs./ft. of torque.
It's also going to help clean up the rather slow & sloppy shift characteristics of the automatic transmission, making it slip less and giving you a better shift characteristic & improved vehicle powertrain response in all situations.
There are a number of threads here in this section about V-6 owners using the Superchip, so I'm sure you'll be able to read over some great info. 12vRep posted one of the more recent threads about the Superchip for the 4.2 V-6 F-150.
If you'd like to go over any of that in detail, please feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is just below. We also have an online ordering system for the Superchip which can be accessed just by clicking on the link below as well.
Good luck with your truck,
