Superchip problems
Superchip problems
I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced the problem I had after I installed my SuperChip
My truck started up after I got the chip in, but the check engine light came on and the truck was not running well at all...I drove it up the street before I noticed the light, then I turned right back around and I couldn't even get my truck up my driveway..I had to put it in low to get up. Do you think it's just a matter of the contacts on the computer not being cleaned completely? I took the chip back out and my truck is running just like it used to. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

From what I understand, the engine will not start at all if the chip is not making good contact, but I may be incorrect. Could be a faulty chip? I would email, or call, Mike Troyer. I'm sure he can answer your questions.
Hi ColoFord,
Your problem could be anything from not cleaning the contacts properly to having a wrong code in the Superchip, to having the computer of your vehicle reflashed to a different code, to having a problem with the Superchip itself, etc.
Your best bet is calling whoever you purchased it from, so you can get some tech support. Also, check your documentation that came with the Superchip, as you can always call the manufacturer directly, and all that information is on the documentation that comes with every Superchip.
The first thing to check is to make sure that the code on your Superchip exactly matches that of the computer code of your vehicle, as if it doesn't match, you're wasting your time, it's never going to work until the Superchip is reprogrammed to match your computer code. Once you have determined that it's the right code, then next check the connector for proper cleaning, and don't forget to clean in between each contact and along the edges of that connector as well. You *must* remove both covers, top and bottom, from the computer to get access to be able to clean the connector properly on both sides. To do that, remove thw 6 screws that hold the top cover on, and once that is off, then just press on the bottom cover and it will drop right off.
If this Superchip was purchased new from a dealer, then you need to contact your dealer and get them to help you.
I hope this helps you out a bit, & good luck!

Hi ColoFord,
As you can see from MikeS's post, he just went thru the same thing apparently, and in his case, it was just the contacts needing more cleaning, so hopefully that may take care of your problem as well. It's encouraging at least, to see a post from someone else with the same symptoms, who took care of it by recleaning the contacts, so at least you know that it's *possible* for it to be just more cleaning needed.
Let us know if you need more help, & good luck!

Thanks for the responses guys. I did take the computer back out and recleaned the contacts but I still had the same problem. I called the place I got the chip from and sent it back to them. They said they would reprogram it or send me a new chip. So I'll try again next week when I get the chip back.
