Is there a how to?
Is there a how to?
So I just got a sct livewire and have been playing. At first I was just using the canned tunes that came with it. I have since got a custom tune from JJ @ Wms. Just the starter tune for now, still need to datalog it and send it back for JJ to look at. What I'm looking for is the ranges of all the pids and what each of are on the truck. I know what most are but am really wanting to look at the ranges for like the fuel trims, maf counts and voltage, fuel injector duty rate. Thanks guys.
For the record I did search but I may have been looking for the wrong stuff or the wrong place.
The truck is a 98 f150 4.6 5 speed
Built shortblock @ 10.5 to 1 compression
PI heads and cams
BBK 75mm throttle body
Aem cai with aem dry flow filter
Mad enterprises efan

I would be very interested in the same data and/or explanation of some of the PIDS.
To sort of answer your question, just ask JJ what PIDS he requires for his tuning.
I am working with Justin at VMP currently on getting a few things sorted out, albeit quite slowly (1-2 months in between responses).
Good luck and post any info you get, thanks!

To answer your question, lightning_clone, I don't know that you are going to find what you are looking for. Most of the sensors that send information to the PCM simply send it a voltage. Ford publishes voltage ranges for each of these sensors, but they vary by model year and engine and would not be what you need. The voltages are "converted" by the PCM to readings you can understand if you have a PID monitor. The PCM doesn't need the conversions, it just reacts to the voltages themselves.
For instance the voltages shown for the MAF sensor for a 2006 5.4L 3V as used in the F150 is:
Your tuner should certainly know the appropriate values for your PIDs - if he doesn't, you should not be getting tunes there. And, as cheef said, just ask him what PIDs you need to datalog. Follow tarajerame's advice on how to record them.

Hot Idle: 0.74-0.97
30 MPH: 1.2-1.5
55 MPH: 1.9-2.3
Now, I don't know that this kind of information would help you at all, and I don't have it for your truck anyway, but it's in the Ford Reference Values manual for your model year.30 MPH: 1.2-1.5
55 MPH: 1.9-2.3

Your tuner should request specific info to be logged.
A wait of one to two months is crazy, a definite deal killer if you are doing much in the way of modifications or have done some mods. I have received same day service from my tuner when I had problems.
Try googling: data logging for retune + SCT, it will keep you busy for a while!
For twenty bucks try this, a very understandable primer which is easy to read and will make the whole tuning effort understandable.

I understand how to load the tune and have no doubt that JJ knows what he is doing. I really just want to understand more about what each pid is telling me.

Ya not too impressed with the turn around times for sure. 5star turn around is usually within the day if not within the hour which I definitely enjoy. I really like the relaxed nature of the VMP tune for my daily drive. The 5star is more on the intense side which I also enjoy but sometimes the shift firmness gets to me and it really wants to peel out in 1st gear which is shredding my tires. I probably just need a little torque management dialed back into 1st gear. I realize just a quick call to 5star I can get the shifting softened, Mike has been great the past 10 months tending to my requests.
Sorry lightning clone, not trying to hijack, just trying to help/shed advice/experience.
Let us know what PIDS your tuner wants, I am very interested in comparing notes.

hence the link, I'm sure you did but did you read post #8 of that that thread??? https://www.f150online.com/forums/4189723-post8.html
And no stoffer I didn't just load the tune and out and beat on the truck. I have looked at the short and long term fuel trims timing and slowly gotten a bit deeper into it since it is only a starter tune I wasn't going to just go nuts and cross my fingers.
Not a problem cheef we're all here trying to learn and see what has and does work for others.
