2nd hand tuner

I'm thinking about buying a edge evolution tuner from a guy that had it in his pickup that he sold. Is there any problems that could occur from it being in another truck before mine? h just needs to set it back to stock or reset it or what? sorry if this is repetitive i know i saw a similar question a few weeks back but i cant find that thread. thanks guys, if i get it ill have plenty more questions I'm sure. everyone's taking about PHP's Gryphon id like to know what that's all about.

Just make sure that the truck was returned to stock before it was sold, or the tuner will be 'vin locked' to that vehicle. Also find out if the tunes are 'custom' or 'canned'. You wont be able to use the 'custom' tunes with your truck...very slim chance ! If they are 'canned' then you might be able to use them. A Gryphon is basically an Edge that has been modified by "Power Hungry Performance" (PHP) to accept their custom tunes, which are superior to anything the 'Edge' can deliver. Hopes this helps some.......

Yes, it CAN be reset to the "stock" condition with canned tunes, and that would be free (no cost to you).

The best thing you could do is get the seller to let you try plugging it into your truck before you buy it. It won't hurt anything to try this.

Yep. This is what I did. In fact, I'd demand (nicely) that you plug it into your OBDII port just to confirm that it's not still married to his old truck. If the little box in the top, right-hand corner reads any number besides "0", it's still married to his truck.

If this is the case, either tell him you're not interested or have him give you a very large discount for it because it's going to cost you around $75 just to get it unlocked. Plus, your time and trouble of fooling with all of that is worth something.
