87 Performance Tune Questions

I'm thinking about odering the Gryphon CS from PHP. I know it comes canned with tranny, 87 tow, and 91 or 93 perf...cant remember. Well, i only use 87 octane so i was going get custom 87 perf. 1. What type of results will I be looking at? 2. Will it be a big enough difference from 87 tow? 3. Is the difference worth $450+? The truck is a 1997 4.6. Thanks

Hey Retto, I recently got my 87 and 93 custom performance tunes last Wednesday after a grueling 6 week wait UGH. I just bought the regular Gryphon for my 2006 with the big 5.4. I notice some more power with my 87 custom performance than the canned 87 tow, which is recommended to run if you have a CAI until your custom tunes are available. I don't know if it's just me, but I didn't notice anything like night and day difference, but the power is definitely felt. I haven't tried the 93 tune yet, but i'm sure i'll notice a much bigger gain there for obvious reasons. I will say however that I notice at least 1 mpg increase going down the highway. Today on my way to class I got 19.2 mpg avg, which is incredible for a big honkin truck! No "hot roddin" has been done yet due to the fact that I wanna see what mpg I can get all the time. The improved shift points and "punch it" response is worth the $400 alone. I no longer feel this lag time between hitting the gas and roaring past the slow cars in front of me, it's instant go-go power. Also, if you have done any mods to your truck like headers or air intakes, they will custom calibrate that for you for even more power.

I would advise looking at other people's reviews of the Gryphon in addition to mine. It's a very handy tool that does a whole lot more than just make your truck go faster. The gauges and displays make diagnosing problems quick and painless. PHP also has outstanding customer service, they email me back within 30 minutes every time and they do great work. Hope this helps!
