Edge Evolution software question...
Edge Evolution software question...
I have the Edge Evolution 15050 Programmer for my F150 and recently tried to get the Lightning software working. I couldn't find the cd that came with it, so I was able to find a link on Edge's site for the Lightning software. I installed it and tried hooking it up and it said the following:
Unable to determine Evolution Version. The unit may be in 'Run' mode. This software only supports EEF2400 and EEF2100 Evolution models that being with version E3 (ex E3.20.21). If the version is correct, the Evolution may be in 'Run' mode, is currently set as a Stock Writer, or the Memory is corrupted.
I'm somewhat stumped as what to do next, either to try to contact Edge in the morning and wait to see what they say, or to download the Fusion software and go that route. I was wondering what others would do in this situation.
I'd appreciate any help! Thank you!
Kris

Just to confirm, you DID set your truck back to the stock (Level 0) tune before you removed the Evolution from it to connect to your PC, correct?
If that is the case, do try downloading and installing Fusion. Then, with Fusion running and your truck set to Level 0 try plugging in the Evolution. It will either recognize your programmer or not, and if it does, it should update the firmware and software automatically.
Trying to connect to Fusion should not harm the programmer - it will either work or it won't.
But now a question: Why do you want to do this at all? If your programmer's working fine, I'd not try to "fix it". The updates to programmers are generally issued to take care of specific issues, and if you don't have any, there's really nothing to be gained. But, if something goes wrong in the updating, which can happen, you might end up with a non-working unit (that Edge will have to troubleshoot and repair).

That may well be the case, but the cable would not cause a problem connecting to Lightning, since it's not used with a PC.
This "run mode" error has been a recurring problem, and I can't really supply a guaranteed "fix". It CAN be caused by a "comm timeout" with the Evolution when the PC is busy doing other tasks (virus scans, backups, etc.) and the Evolution "thinks" that communication has been lost. Try to limit other processes as much as possible by temporarily disabling them.
Again, a bad cable would cause problems when the Evo is connected to the truck, not the PC.

Well, today I got in contact with Edge to see what they would suggest. They said that they don't offer any updates for the unit and it is considered "obsolete". The only thing they could offer is an upgrade to the new CS for $100 and sending the old unit back. I'm considering this but as I am tied up with other priorities, it's put on hold for the time being.
