Just got a SCT SF3, ordered tunes.
Just got a SCT SF3, ordered tunes.
So I got my hands on a SCT SF3 today, and loaded the 87 octane tune.
Truck is a 2003 F-150 Heritage edition 6 inch lift 33 inch tires, basic bolt ons such as intake, throttle body, and 3 inch cat back exhaust, Truck always sounded mean but never had that, torquey truck feeling, ( Stock trans tuning, bigger tires and 3.55's will do that )
So I bought a EDGE CS,
For a year I tried different tune combinations, 87 octane 91 octane etc.
It sucked, the trans shifted way to damn hard, and it held the gears way to long prior to hitting you with a back breaking shift, ( This was with only 3-4 percent increase in firmness, ) the throttle response, what throttle response absolutley nothing from a dead stop I would stab the throttle and nothing for a half second, so I lived with it, eventually putting it to stock and correcting for oversized tires.
Well today, I picked up a SF3, loaded the 87 octane tune and drove.
This is a canned tune.
First impressions, the truck is faster not much, but noticable off idle acceleration is awesome, I can actually go over hills and stay under 2000 rpm with no down shifting. As for seat of the pants feel the canned 87 mops the floor with the 91 octane Edge tune. in drivability, shifting, and throttle response and power.
No lies, no comparisons,
Just utterly wipes the floor with it, I wish I could fill up with 91 and load that tune.
So when I got home after my running around I made a trip to 5 star's site and ordered tunes.
Im looking forward to loading tunes to match my mods,
A few of you may be wondering why I held out so long and the truth was I searched and searched for people who compared the tunes on a 5.4 2v motor to Edge, and I found very little. But I am finally glad I bit the bullet and cannot wait to see what the changes in performance are with mikes tunes.

Got my tunes from 5 star about 5 days ago.
First impressions, instant throttle response better mileage, more power from seat of the pants feeling over all awesome mod. it really changed how the truck felt.
Decided what the hell lets go to the track and try it out.
Went to the track best run of the night on 91 octane tune.
18.43 in the 1/4 mile. my first reaction was a sick feeling in my stomach. for how poor it performed. I have no one to blame but myself.
33.4 tires on 3.55's and stock stall speed = a truck that shifts into 2nd gear by the 1/8th mile mark.
Making plans to get my 4.56 gears installed this week and retry.

was there a big difference with the custom tune over canned? i just went from a cts to a sf3 just because i dont wanna wait years for a custom tune from php. i wanna order custom tunes for my sct sf3, but dunno who yet, ive heard good about 5 star and good about MPT. i know canned 93 octane tune is "ok". the downshift are a little slow, i just hope a custom tune will be worth it or im going back with the edge
