Anytime you start to load a tune, make sure the battery is strong.

Im guessing i need some type of meter to check this right ? Or is not having any battery problems sufficient to assume the battery is fully charged?

It would be wise to invest in an inexpensive multimeter. They can be found for less than $10 and are perfectly adequate for checking battery voltage. Ideally, you'd like to see the "resting" battery voltage at or above 12.6V if you're going to load a tune with a programmer. You should also have your lights, A/C fan, radio, etc. off.

Resting battery voltage is what you see at the battery terminals after the battery has been "quiet" for a while. One way to get it this way is to raise your hood after driving the truck and then check the voltage about three hours later without opening any doors (which would activate the interior lights and a few other circuits).

Ugh! I wasn't paying attention. I THINK Bill at PHP has written tunes on the monochrome Gryphon for the 4.2 engine, but you'd better try to talk to him before you order.

If the device recognizes your hex code, you'll be able to use it as a monitor, but I don't know if it will do that out of the box.

But IS it a monochrome? Did the one you ordered look like this:

or did you order the newer style? Am I off base here for a 2007 Jack?

Red02FX4, it could actually be either the monochrome version (like the picture your posted) or it could be a CS or CTS platform. Any one of these three are designed for 2004-2008 model years. The only kicker is the 4.2L engine. Edge on their website only says they support the 4.6L and 5.4L engines. But, I THINK Bill has modified the software (at least in the monochrome ones) to support 4.2Ls.

I think I inferred he was getting a monochrome Gryphon from the way he discussed it in his first post. That may have been a total miss on my part.

I did buy a monochrome. The PHP website says i just need a custom tune for the 4.2L the canned tunes arent supported. So i should be Good as far as i know with using it once i get a custom tune. Just wonderin if it ll work before that.

I would think that, with leaving it to stock OEM tune, you could still use it for the display (digital gauges). Since nothing would be changed on the PCM, I don't see the harm in plugging it in to see if it will work while you wait for the custom tunes for it.

Anyone else agree/disagree?

No, there's no harm in plugging it in at all. If it recognizes the hex code, it should work, but I would think if it did that, it would also program the truck. So, I'm not convinced it will function as an extra set of gauges until it is loaded with at least one custom tune.

And Red, I'm not a bit upset that you asked about the kind of programmer he had. My assumption could well have been wrong.

No problem Jack I just know when I got mine, I was told it was a CS (not knowing better) and assumed as much. In the process, Fusion botched it up. Posted that pic and then was told it was a monochrome. Bill had to fix it remotely.

Fusion really drives me up a wall. They've tried to make it "idiot proof", but all they really succeeded in doing is to make it idiotic.
