Question Question for Mike T

Mike,
Awhile ago you posted some numbers from tests you did on the 5.4l for hp increases for K&N, Air Raid and Airforce 1. Air Force 1 provided the biggest increase. Have you done any tests on the V-10, if so what are the numbers? I have a 2002 V-10 F-250 on order and am starting to look at mods. Also how much of a hp and torque increase will the Superchip give on the V-10.
Thanks

Hi RedY2K Sport,

No, we have not had a chance to do any "formal" testing on the V-10's directly, though we have had a couple of customers who reported back getting a 23 horsepower gain (flywheel) on a 2000 V-10 and a 22 horsepower gain on a 2001 V-10 from the Air Force One kit. So they do seem pretty consistent on the V-10's, and of course those V-10 airboxes are very restrictive just like they are on all the other engines.

Just to be clear, the K&N FIPK kit and the Airaid kit are nice kits, they just don't use the cold air inlet from the fender and don't have that venturi built in, etc., which seems to be the primary reasons why they're making more power than the others in our evaluations. the Air Force One is clearly a superior kit in design, real-world function and for those who count esthetics, certainly in appearance as well.

With regards to the rated gains froim the Superchip for the V-10, they rated gains are 29 horsepower and 48 lbs./ft. of torque for the 1999-2001 V-10's, they work very well indeed on those big V-10 motors.

That being said, we really won't know exactly what the 2002 V-10's will gain from the Superchip until Superchips has had a chance to get some on the dyno, after they start rolling down the road off the assembly line. Ford has already released the redesigned Explorer and called it a 2002 model, but I haven't seen any 2002 V-10's just yet.
