where and how to get custom tunes

So I've been doing some mods to my 2001 f150,5.4,paxton,injectors and maf....plan on doing more, but now i want to drive it and need some tunes to bring everything together.
I'm not building a race truck, just a fun truck. I live near fort worth, tx. Where, how, who do I get the custom tunes from. I've got an sct x3.
I don't want to spend a fortune, but more importantly spend in the right places.

Find a local tuner and get it done on a dyno, or get "mail order" custom tunes from one of the competent shops such as Troyer Performance, VMP Tuning, or 5 Star Tuning. Troyer is the best, but his wait time is unacceptable.

10 to 15 weeks is what they tell you, but it usually ends up being longer. And yes Troyer is the best! I'm trying to find a good local tuner myself.

You are referring to Troyer when saying 10-15 weeks, I believe. Other tuners are usually 1-2 weeks for mail order tunes.

Yes, 10-15 Troyer. VMP and 5star are much faster. Not sure about PHP, never had their tunes, but I think there is a wait for him too.

PHP is about 6 weeks, but I don't think I'd use them for SCT gas tunes.

i got my sct x3 in today....shows unlocked/unmarried.
i downloaded disc into my laptop, checked for and updated.
connected to truck(2001 f150,5.4,auto trans)
first i tried to get a stock file, dont know if i did or not. i made a folder and now its populated,so i assume it worked. but sct still shows unlocked,so i am not sure.
i tried to from first screen and it says not supported, i tried to upload 1 of the installed tunes---87 octane,87 sleeve and 87 no sleeve(which i am unsure of what those meant) it says ecu fail to unlock.
am i doing something wrong or is my sct messed up? i am aware i will need to have a custom tune made for my truck, but i want to be sure its gonna work before i spend anything else on this device.
