OBD 2 scanner

Thinking about picking up one of these OBD2 scanners. Canadian Tire has them 1/2 price this week so i figure now is the time to get it. Yes I know I should put the $$$ towards and Edge programmer but I have not found a used one for less the 200-250 in my area. Are these scanners worth the bucks?? I figure the first time I can read and clear a code myself it will pay for itself right?
thks in advance
here is the link to the one I'm lookin at

You don't need anything that fancy to read and clear codes.

If you can get an unlocked edge evo for $200 don't waste your money on a dedicated code reader. I too wanted to get a code reader, but then an xcal3 came onto my local craigslist for $150. And it has 5 unlocks remaining. Way better deal imho

I may. Not sure which I'll do at this time. Quite sure I will not buy the $100 one I was looking at though. Checked ebay and saw some sub $50 units on there as well.
