Custom tune or not

I have no idea whatsoever regarding "tuning". Hopefully somebody can help with a few questions.
Have a 150 with a 5L on order and am playing with the idea of a custom tune.

Does a custom tune affect ford warranty?
To what extend does a tune "wake up a 5L" and how would it effect gas mileage?
Is a custom tune done a Dyno, or some gadget that is inside the cab?
Appreciate some info.

The use of a programmer on any vehicle with warranty can effect the warranty if the programmer and tunes effect the warrantied part in question....warranty denials are based upon the dealer....

There's a tsb on the 5.0's and ecoboost vehicles that instructs techs/service managers to keep a closer watch on tampering for the intake, exhaust, suspension modifications, and programming...

mike@ 5 star tuning seems to have a good following around here.....

there's a couple of different ways for custom tunes....dyno and email....email is the most popular and painless along with being economical....the email tune might not be spot on and it can be tuner adjusted but its a lot better than canned tunes some other mfgrs have....dyno tunes are more spot on but can quickly add up costs....

better gas mileage?... yes its possible but its a crap shoot ....

Bluejay has a 11' and seems to like his new truck with out tunes and his old 05' he had tunes on....

its up to you....

Yep, I really just don't feel the need for a tune. I would like the shifting to be a bit more percise and firm, but even that is not as bad as my 2005 was. A tune would just not be worth risking the voiding of the warranty. It's pretty good right out of the box.

Search around re: potential warranty issues.

Lots of really intelligent people on this programmer forum with experience, listen to what they say. I've been reading this forum and educated myself the best I could from reading posts from MGD, 88racing, Tarajarame etc. These guys have hands on knowledge.

I just had my 5.4 tuned by 5startuning and it's incredible. Mike Butler did a great job and is super friendly/helpful. Call him and he will sort you out. I put a review up on the 2009-2012 forum, go dig it up.

Good luck, the 5.0 rocks, but judging from 5stars dyno charts there is a fair bit left in the 5.0 and I'm sure he sorts the tranny out while he's at it.
