Thumbs up Diablo Chip Is In ...

... AND IT RU-EEELS!!

I know that I said I'd post my opinion about the DiabloChip after it was installed and used ... for about a week, but 20 miles was enough!

First off ... it's easy to see that it's a superior designed chip, with it's inside-the-computer install. Power is very impressive and on par with Superchip (maybe better), in my opinion, and as advertised ... the power/torque does *seem* to come on just a bit quicker than Superchip. As for shifting ... haven't made up my mind yet, but the DiabloChip seems better/firmer for "normal" to "moderate" driving (95% of my driving), but maybe not quite as neat shifting as the Superchip for WOT use. But I should mention that the WOT shifting of the Superchip is only very slightly better, IMO ... I almost can't tell any difference, so I'm giving Superchip the benefit of the doubt.

I'm giving the DiabloChip "two thumbs up!"

Hey Buffalo, thanks for the post. I am really considering the Diablo as well. I just wish they had a flip chip type unit so I could switch between and 87 and 92 octane mode. I figure they will be coming out with one shortly, which is ok as I want a few more miles on my truck before I chip it. Good to see an alternative posted.

"Comming Soon

DiabloSport 2-Stage Ford module. This module will be able to carry two programs in one module. You will be able to switch between the two programs. Countless number of benefits.

Horsepower & torque gains:

4.2L = 19hp & 28 lb ft
4.6L = 24hp & 38 lb ft
5.4L = 25hp & 40 lb ft"

Keep us updated Buffalo as you put more miles on that thing!
Thanks!

I will call them here in a bit and get the details on that 'new' chip. I will let you know asap. Good idea since the diablo chip fits right *inside* the computer box and probably isnt as easy to just reach up in there and pull out like the SC is.

I finally decided to install a chip in my truck... There is a dealer for diablosport chips around the corner from my office. I thought I would give it whirl since I couldn't find anyone to do a superchip for me. (I don't really feel like doing it myself -- lazy I guess). Anyway, I would have to say that I had to double check to make sure they guy didn't charge me for nothing... The chip is in there.
Maybe the program is not right or something -- I dunno. Slightly firmer shifts? I guess maybe so. Better acceleration? I can't really tell. I hope to take it and dyno it on a dynojet just to see. I will pull it out and run it again just to see the diff.

I wonder if they cleaned the contacts well enough...

Anyway, my vote for Diablosport at the moment is neutral. Installed during hottest part of the Houston day and the heat really sucks the life out of my engine. Morning will be interesting.

If the chip is not making good contact, would it simply not operate or would it cause weird behavior instead?

Once I am sure I have what diablo has to offer, I will try a superchip and see if I can tell the difference.

Later

Ken

Follow up to my follow up...

The diablo dealer tells me that if the car starts and runs cleanly with the new chip in, then it is communicating correctly. So... That means the chip is a POS. I am going to give it 50 miles and see...

Same dealer turns out programs and sells superchips also. I was unaware.... I will have him swap it tomorrow and compare by seat of my pants...

Will keep everyone informed...

Ken
