Additional PCM for Performance Tunes

I should be receiving my SCT X3 this week and had a question before I install. Has anyone purchased a 2nd PCM to use in their truck strictly for the enhanced tuning? I was thinking of removing the original PCM and leaving the factory program on it and using it for trips to the dealer. I would then use the second PCM to load the custom tune on.

I'm sure everyone knows the reason I'm asking is for the "gray area" concerning warranties. Would using a second PCM keep the dealer's equipment from discovering the use of a "non-factory" tune? If so, has anyone done this and are there any serious inconveniences involved in swapping it out?

I tried searching for an answer to my query but didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Lou

If this having two PCM's would let the truck start; would there be a problem with the digital odometer as each PCM would have read different mileage?

I know that the 99-03 series with the pats system, you would have to have it dealer reflashed or change the ignition and the cluster as well when you change the pcm. I cant say for sure if this is still the same on newer ones but i would imagine it is the same if not harder to get around it. Not sure about odometer reading being the same.

Um er .....that's a new way to look at it....it would be really expensive and cost prohibitive....you'd actually need to purchase 2 pcm's.....one for the engine and one for the tranny....

Thanks for al the input! Apparently, it doesn't work like my 2004 Silverado I just traded in on this truck. In my Silverado, I had two PCMs. One with the custom tune and the original one with the factory tune. I tend to agree with evryone's comments as if memory serves correctly, even the GM trucks switched to a two PCM configuration from 2007 and newer where one controlled the engine and one controlled the transmission.

Other input I received to this query helped me to realize that regardless of the approach taken, the modifications are still traceable. It doesn't seem to be worth the effort and expense.

Thanks again to everyone for the responses,
Lou
