Xcal3 Questions

Ok,so thinking of buying a used xcal3. it is unlocked. Question is, will it work with my truck right away, or does it need to be sent in and programmed? The guy who has it says yes, he says it is specific to your computer code or something. Is this true? For now I just want to run the canned tunes until I can get some custom ones made.

Or is it as long as it is unlocked it will work on anything (mine is an 07 f150 5.4)

If it has to be sent in, what does it cost to change it over to my computer code. Thanks

First of all it won't need to be sent in.....that's only of its locked...

Secondly if it is the x3 the likelyhood of the sellers box code/hex code being a match to yours is slim to none.....so in order for it to work you'll need to order custom tunes....

Third if it is the SF3 its canned tunes should work with your truck....

I am just going to piggy-back a question on this thread. I recently got a SCT SF3. obviously they can read and clear codes on the vehicle I bought it for, but can I plug it in and read/delete codes on any vehicle with the OBDII Connection?

I just didnt know if once it was programmed to tune a vehicle if you could use it on another to jsut read and delete the codes. Fortunately (or unfortunately) no vehicles I have access to have any CEL lights on.

I've always put the tuned vehicle back to stock .......just because of the fear of something getting puckered.....one day I had the opportunity to get a refurbed snapon code reader, so I bought it and I don't use the programmer anymore....

With the x3 .....You'll have to get custom tunes written for yer truck/hex code....there were NO canned tunes on the device to begin with and the canned tunes cannot be loaded to the x3 either.....

The SF3 does have the canned tunes....

can i add custom tunes to the SF3 down the road? I want to use the canned tunes then down the road get custom. Or would it be worth it to just get customs now and be done with it? I want troyer but the wait is too long, so Iwas thinking 5 star or VMP... Truck is a stock 07 f150 5.4. i did do the DWV mod to the intake. Its gonna be stock for a while.

The SF3 and X3 both hold 3 custom tunes while the sf3 comes with 3 canned tunes. I dont think there would be anything wrong with using a canned tune while waiting for custom tunes. I am going to get some custom tunes as well, but I dont think I am going to wait for Troyer Tunes. I wish I could get a little better info off of his website.

We own and drive bricks......only gains in mpgs are found through proper maintenance and good driving habits.....mpgs are a crap shoot with tunes ....some people get them with tunes and others don't......so don't bet the farm that they will help in that department.....

I just sent in an order to VMP yesterday. We'll See how it goes, I can't wait till I get the custom tune.

I also sent an email to Troyer Performance a couple days ago but have not heard anything back. I am considering getting a tune or two from Troyer and seeing how it compares to the VMP.
