Used Gryphon Monchrome ?

I bought a used gryphon, downloaded the pegasus program and followed the instruction and all seemed to go well. I connected the gryphon to the computer with pegasus open as described, should the unit light up or blink? This one did nothing.
Just want to make sure everything is in working order before I try to connect it to my truck. I will be using just the canned tune for now to get the unit installed and working.

06 f150 KR 5.4 4X4

Thanks in advance, Kenny

See if the cigar lighter works. They share the fuse.

BlueJay,
I haven't even connected it to the truck yet. I just connected it to my computer with the USB cable after I downloaded the Pegasus program. When I plug the unit in to the USB port on the computer should the screen on the unit light up?

Ok so I pulled out my laptop which has windows XP on it and downloaded the Pegasus app on it. After the download was complete I connected the Gryphon to the laptop, same results as on my desktop computer. Open Pegasus and plug the unit in with the USB cable and it shows the com port, s/n , connected , etc. but the gryphon never lights up. So is the gryphon screen supposed to light up when connected to the computer or not? I opened the Pegasus & Gryphon updater and it say everything is up to date. So should I just connect it to the truck and see what happens? I don't want to screw up my truck.

Well next update, I hooked the unit up to the truck and the screen lit up blue and went right thru the programming process without a hitch. But I was thinking this unit is a standard Edge unit and not a Gryphon, when the unit loads at the begining it say Edge Evolution, is that what it's supposed to show? Or should it say something about Gryphon instead? I just looked on PHP website and according to what I just read the Gryphon units are black and the Edge units are silver, My unit is black so it should be a gryphon correct?

I think I responded to your post on the PHP forum about this, but you've given me new information here.

First, if the case is black, it's a Gryphon.

Next, the Evolution splash screen when the unit boots on your truck tells me the previous owner did exactly what he was supposed to do. He programmed his truck to Level 0 (stock), removed the Gryphon and then, through Pegasus, restored it to the "canned tune" state, since HIS custom tunes would not work on your truck.

Now, the screen is blue, because that's the color the previous owner liked - you can change it through [Menu]->[Display]->[Change LED Color]. It is possible that the Gryphon is not lighting on the PC because the Red and Green percentages are both at 0%. Try setting all colors to 100%. This will change the display color of course, and I don't know what it will look like, but at least the Red and Green pixels will be turned on.

Now, when you connect it to the PC the screen should light up red and then change to green when Pegasus reports it "connected".

Don't try to change anything through Pegasus since the unit will not be at Level 0!

I recommend you use the Level 2 tow tune as a daily driving tune until you get custom tunes. Have fun!

Thanks Jack,

I did install the level 2 tow tune last night, WOW what a difference! This truck wouldn't hardly break the tires loose on a wet street from a dead stop before, Now it will lite em up half way thru 1st on a dry street, friggin amazing the difference. The truck is bone stock other than the Gotts intake mod & Magnaflow cat back so would it be worth it to get a custon tune from Bill at PHP? I'm not looking for a fire breathing drag strip monster lol but the difference in stock & the canned tune is unreal, would there be that drastic of a difference in the canned tune verses the custom tune?

Thanks Again, Kenny

There will be more but not a drastically more as you have seen with the canned tunes. For me, I was able to get an 87 Perf tune that was about equal to Level 3 in power, but provided better shifting and much better downshifting than the canned tunes.

Just a little update. I took my truck in for the Texas emissions inspection and it passed with flying colors with the canned 87 tow tune. I came home and loaded the 91 canned perf tune and so far I like it, the shifts don't seem as harsh but definately positive lock-up.
The issue with the screen " All Blue" Exactly what Jackand Janet said, the screen had been adjusted to all blue. I have changed it to a green so it matches the dash now.

Over all I am thrilled with the Gryphon!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL

Thanks for letting us know. Glad you're as happy with your unit as I am with mine. You have a good Christmas too!
