XCal2 tune storing

I tried the search but it kept cutting what I was searching too short to find anything.

Just a quick question though. I have had my XCal2 from VMP for 3 years now and have made changes every once in a while to the tunes.

So with the changes I have made, I know that it saves the changes correct? Because if that is the case then my original tunes are long gone.

Mostly I just play with the shift pressures.

But now I have to make a VERy long trip hauling a fairly heavy load (Alaska to Texas then to North Carolina with about 7500 lb trailer).

So what I want to know is if there is a way to get my tuner back to the way it was when I recieved it from VMP, or if I should just order a couple of new tunes from him.

I have made a few minor changes since I got it, gears and 35" tires are the biggest difference. I am willing to spend the money if I have to but would rather get the "stock" custom tunes back.

ANyone have an idea? Thanks.

Somebody correct me if im wrong because i havent had my Xcal2 very long but, When you adjust anything it asks how many percent you want to adjsut it(in the shifting its firmer or softer). it goes from 0 as your starting point and it goes 1 2 3 firmer and -1 -2 -3 softer. So if you just set everything back to 0 it will be back at the starting point Justin set you up with. I have VMP tunes as well and that is how i have been doing it.

The end user adjustments that you are making are being made to the tune that you are running at the time. Your stock tune has been uploaded to the Xcal and is saved there.
If you look at your Xcal menu, you will see an option to " return to stock" which will load your stock tune into the pcm. The changes that you made to your custom tune will remain in the Xcal with the changes.

Okay, maybe i didn't explain right the first time.

I want to know if the changes that I make to the customs tunes are saved after i make them. Say I change my tow tune to have firmer shifts. When I get done making my changes, it asks me if I want to save my changes. I say yes so that it continues to do its thing.

Now say I went back to a stock tune, drove around for a few days and then decided to put the tow tune back on. Will the changes that I made the first time I loaded it still be saved?

I know some of them are, like the rev limiter settings are saved (I have those at 5800 RPM's) but other options that I made changes to like the gear size or tire revolutions I have to change to correct them.

So what I want to know is which ones are saved and which aren't.

Everytime I go to load back on one of my custom tunes it shows the shift pressures back at zero. But I am worried that the new zero is actually what I saved it as before. Does that make sense? I am trying here...

Say if day one, i upped the shift pressures on my performance tune 15%. Then the second day i put the tow tune on to drive my trailer. Day three rolls around and I want my perfomance tune back. When I go in and install it I want my shift pressures to be back at 15% higher like they were on day one. The XCAL says that it is at 0% so I have to bump it back up to 15%.

So are the changes I am making compounding in the XCAL? Like I did the 15% on day one then on day three I did 15% again. So am I actually at 15% or am I now at 30%.

Okay, thats the best I can do without actually someone being with me so I can show them.

if you "firmed" up the shifts you're asking for trouble and I hope your transmission survives

as stated above either return the setting back to 0 or you can always return the truck to stock and clear the device then reload the tune Justin emailed you

I was just giving an example when I said make firmer shifts. Honestly I have lowered them, I like a smoother, almost hydrostatic transmission feel.

And that is my dilemma, I don't have the tunes that Justin sent me. That was about 3 computers ago...

I have been talking with justin. We are working out an issue he thinks could be coming from my torque converter. I paid $60 to get my tunes up to par and hopefully fix the issue. I am confident that he can do it if it is something to do with the tune. Anyways, I will keep you all posted.
