I used to switch back to the stock tune. Now I just go with the tune on. No point in switching it back if your just going in for an oil change or regular maintenace. If you bring it in for a rough idle or somthing other then regular maintenance you might want to switch it back to stock because they might want to flash the ecu.

If you are still in the warranty period, I would, and do return to stock before ANY visits to the dealer where I hand them my keys. I think that even after my warranty is over, I will continue to do so. An ounce of prevention.... If they happen to reflash "by accident" the result is a major headache for me. I will continue to do everything I can to avoid the major headaches. For now, I'm still well within warranty, and return to stock for every single dealer adventure.

Is there anything wrong with buying a used SCT X3 programmer? What steps would I have to take to use it on my truck? Send it to a tuner (5 star tuning)? or can I get it to work for my truck myself, and just buy tunes and have them emailed to me?

Well that was kind of my question too... You could use the tuner for sure but, it appears the answer is you'd have to get your own tune done or download a generic one.

So I am looking at getting a used SCT X3. If I can get it for the right price and get custom tunes from 5 star, what else do I need to be concerned with? Will I have any problems if the SCT is in great shape and I get custom email tunes?

thanks for the help guys, for a newer person this site is a $$/life saver.
