\How do you determine the best set up for my application?

I think I'd prefer a SCT device with custom tunes for a 2010 with the separate TCM.

I thought the same thing with regard to Hypertech, but then I did a CAI on my '08 5.4L and it started throwing a lean code. Couldn't fix that with the Hypertech so I ended up buying additional credits to use my HP Tuners module and software (purchased for use with my '98 Camaro) to modify fuel.

-- Klhmn, I'll sell you my Hypertech cheap if you want it. It's #42003 (same as you need for yours).

I think that's exactly what he said. He perhaps said it a little fluffier.

Kind of like an oncologist telling you to look at the bright side, ya got 6 great months to live.

Eh live and learn. It would be fine if not for the CAI lean problem. Knowing that now I would not have bought the hypertech. If someone's planning to keep the stock air box it would be fine.

You could always put the stock air box back on and do a Gotts mod to it.

I'm pretty happy with the CAI and the $ already spent. I'll just offload the hypertech somewhere along the way. Just something for the OP to keep in mind when choosing - what else could you see yourself doing in the future?

"POS canned tuning device" ?

Maybe it's better than spending more $$$ and waiting more days - weeks - months in some cases for custom tunes that are themselves often canned tunes generated by a set of parameters sent in via email to a "tuner person" who "tunes" a "tuner device" and then when they arrive, finding they have glitches in them.

Many of us have chosen a "tuner device" with "canned tunes" because we want better shifting, some better power, better response and we want it now or next week ..... not like 3 months from now (I have read way more than one such complaint here) and we want a device that when we make slight changes, doesn't always require that we then get those "custom" tunes modified.

We maybe decide we will add a cat back, maybe a "Gott's Mod" and then leave it there. We maybe want a "tuner device"that we can actually use on another vehicle too? Maybe one we can even use on two seperate vehicles at the same time .... like some of SuperChips FlashPaqs (1865 comes to mind .... and it will accomodate CAIs as well).

Speaking of which ... I know my SC FP 1865 helped my truck with power / response to throttle / shifting firmness and as a side benifit, it returned a solid 1.5 mpg improvement in mileage (though that's not guaranteed). It cost me the puchase price, I picked it up at Troyer's the day I paid for it, I can update for newer vehicles and CAI online at will, I know I'm not going to change cams or add a blower. I never even use the 91-93 octane tunes, the 87 Perf "canned" tune with 6000 pound towing is perfect for me.

I understand that some at F150online may look down their noses at "tuner" devices that use "canned tunes" and at those who use them, but not everyone has a need for the elite "custom tunes" nor the desire / patience often required to wait for same.

Likewise, a friend of mine has a Hypertech on his 2009 Dodge PU with cat back exh and he loves it for cruising or towing!
Even with stock air box, you can still do a "Gott's Mod" or other simple inlet tube with lower restriction and not have a problem as long as the MAF and airfilter box remain the same in relation to the TB & intake manifold. Not the same as a CAI which moves them.
