Question Cylinder Head Temps

I am running an edge cs on level 2 and noticed that the gauge for cylinder head temp was running about 203 to 220. Is this normal? What are you guys running?

It would not surprise me for that to be normal. Be sure to compare your temps to 2009 and 2010s as I think Ford may have upped the "norm". My 2005 runs from 194 to 198 and they came with a 195 thermostat. Back in about 2005, Troyer stated that his tests showed the engines to be most economical and to produce the most power at 210. So, Ford may have learned and upped the temps, I don't know. One thing I do know, they have upped the temps on transmissions. My 2005 runs around 155 and my 2011 runs around 198, about 40 degrees warmer.

Thanks Bluejay. I noticed my trans is running between 175-185 in stop and go traffic.

I'm in a slightly warmer climate than Jim, but my CHT is routinely in the 205-210 range, unless the engine is under load, then it will rise to 220-225, depending on how hard it's being "pushed". My trans temp on the highway is somewhere between 155-170 as long as I'm "cruising", i't about like yours in town. It goes up above 210 pulling a trailer up a long, steep hill in 2nd gear holding 65, which I try to do on the interstates here.

mx52,
You have identical numbers/range to my 09.

In other words, no worries.

Thanks guys. I am new to this whole programmer game and just got nervous when the gauge was showing in the red.

Change the range and it won't be 'in the red'.

This is one of my complaints with the analog display in the CS/CTS programmers. The "normal level" of the display seems too close to the "redline" area to me, and, the needles seem to be too "high" when at normal values. They show too much space "below" them to the lower values.

For instance, I just walked out to my (hot) garage (it's already 95 outside) and turned on my CTS (engine off). The CHT reads 94 and the TFT reads 91 (pretty close to ambient temperature in there). But, both gauges show almost mid-scale!. Now, this is "stupid". Neither gauge should even start to show an analog reading until maybe 170 for the CHT and possibly 150 for the TFT. My alarm limits are 240 for CHT and 225 for TFT, so I don't have them set too low at all.

This is the kind of thing that could be easily corrected through proper firmware programming.

When I said 'range', I should have said alarm limit.

And I agree, you should be able to set the analog gauge range (lower and upper limits).

Please don't think I was disputing anything you said - I was pretty sure you were talking about the alarm limit. But, right after I posted, I started to wonder, "Has Edge fixed this and I didn't know?"

Thanks for letting me know they haven't.
