Pats system and superchip
I purchased a superchip for my 97x. I have the pats (passive anti theft system) So with the chip installed the truck won't start. The tech line told me to send my computer in, but I can't be without my truck for three days. Is there another way to fix this?
PerfectUnion, I would suggest to call Mike T. a.s.a.p as he will be closing shop soon. He may just tell you that you need to clean the contacts better or it may be something different. A quick call to the master can solve your problem one way or another.

The contacts are clean and are not dammaged. The theft light flashes on the dash when trying to start with the chip installed. I spoke with the phone tech and he told me to send the computer in. I am looking for other alternatives.
Hmm.....

I have that too, but haven't had any problem like that. Unless there's something unique about the '97. I'm sure 50% at least of the people on these boards have it as well.
Are you double sure it's the right code for your truck?

This is a common problem with Ford vehicles that have the PATS. DiabloSport is just about to release the 4-Bank computer chips for gas vehicles. With the 4-Bank chip, you will not have the "no-start" problem that you're experiencing
The 4-Bank chips is really a cool concept. It makes you wonder why other chip companies haven't done it. The purpose of a
4-Bank chip is to reduce the likelyhood of a vehicle being reflashed by a dealer and having your chip not function with the new box code generated by the reflash. Another benefit with the 4-Bank chip is the reduction of box codes.
Most other chip companies utilize 1 bank chip technology, which only changes 25% of the original ecu program. The 4-Bank chip incorporates the ECU's entire program and dedicates one entire memory bank for tuning. Because of this 4-Bank technology, the PATS will be incorporated into the chip thus eliminating the problem you're having.
DiabloSport already has this chip available for all Ford vehicles with the Powerstroke turbo diesel engine. So, without the 4-Bank chip, you'll have no other option but to send your computer in if you want to buy another brand chip. Good luck.

Hi perfectunion,
fastsvtss's non-relavant blatant advertisement aside, this is usually not a problem, and certainly isn't "common" by any stretch of the imagination with the Superchip, as many people right here on F-150 Online can attest to.
We have many Ford vehicle owners whose vehicles are equipped with the PATS system running with the Superchip. This is nothing new, the PATS system has been around for a few model years now.
I don't know what your vehicle info or situation actually is exactly, but if you would like to contact us, we'll be happy to go over all of this with you, we're happy to try to assist you. We're here Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7pm Eastern, and also have 24 hr. voicemail, so if you call after hours, please leave a name & number so we can contact you. We do return any Tech Support calls over the weekend as well, as many people do their installations over the weekend, and we usually check those once or twice a day over the weekend.

Mike,
Would you like to tell me what part of my statements are
non-relevent to perfectunion's question? Why are you attacking me?
You said that the no-start problem..."certainly isn't "common" by any stretch of the imagination with the Superchip". If so, what's so different about the Superchip as oppose to Hypertech's or Jet's chip when the PATS is involved? All the chip companies have this problem. To sit there and try to make Superchips sound immune to this problem is wrong.

Well I cleaned the contacts again using the suggestions I found on the boards. Still same thing. The theft light flashes and the truck won't start. My computer code is MCC2. I will try to get in touch with tech support again.

Superchips tech support tells me the computer was reflashed to a newer version. They explained to me that there will a sticker with a twelve or thirteen digit code that has the new version. If that sticker is missing then call ford with the vin number and ask what version it has. So that is what I am gonig to do. I will let you know what happens.
Hi perfect union,
OK, glad to hear you're talking to someone to get some Tech Support. We got your email and responded, and of course as we mentioned before, if you'd like to give us a call, we're always happy to help as well. It sounds like you're getting good help now already, but if you ever need someone else to talk to, we're just a phone call away.
It's entirely possible that your computer was reflashed at a dealership at some point, and when that happens, the code sticker in your door frame, and thus what the Superhcip was programmed for, no longer matches the Superchip, and so the vehicle will not start with the Superchip installed. This is very easy to solve, as they probably already told you, just look under the hood for a "Notice of Modification" sticker, it's white and about 2 inches high by 3 inches wide, and they should have written in the new calibration code, which can indeed be up to 14 digits long. What they can do is, as long as they have that new calibration code and the original computer code, they can do a cross-reference to determine just what software revision your computer was reflashed to, then reprogram the Superchip to match, and that should take care of it.
The key here is whether or not the dealership actually did their job correctly and put that sticker under the hood as required. Sometimes they don't do that at all, and when they don't, then the only way to determine what code is in the computer is to get the computer itself to do a "read" on it, we have all of that equipment right here as well. So no matter even if they didn't place the sticker filed out with the appropriate info, the computer can always be "read": and find out it's load that way. Ideally, the sticker will be there so that you don't have to send in the computer.
We'll keep our fingers crossed for you & hope that dealer did their job right and put the sticker under the hood. If so, you'll be up and running very shortly with your Superchip.
Good luck!
