Tow/Haul mode with programer

I have a bone stock 2010 F150 with the 5.4 and 6speed auto. I use the truck as a daily driver and to haul the boat to the lake on the weekend. I am not after super high performance, however I want to purchase a Tuner to get ride of the annoying throttle lag which after reading this forum seems to be common with all newer ford trucks with the computer controlled throttle, and a tuner seems to be the way to go. Increased gas mileage would be a plus.

My questions is does the stock tow/haul button on the shiftier still work once the truck is tuned. I ask because I usually use it when towing the boat. There are some hills on the way to the lake, and it seems to help the truck shift better under load.

Also what tuner works best with the 6 speed auto? I hear that the transmission has a lot to due with the lag and a lot of the post/comments on this subject seem to be referring to tucks w/out the 6 speed. Is there anyone out there that has tuned an 2010 with the 6speed, any recommendations??

2010 F150 4.6 3V Screw with a 6 speed and a 3.73.
I am using a SCT tuned by 5 Star and have had no probs when using Tow/Haul.
I am sure that you will find Mike at 5 Star very helpful with setting up the tuner for your specific needs and with any questions you may have.
5 Star is highly recommended.

Tow/Haul works with the CTS/Gryphon - it doesn't reprogram the TCM yet, so nothing on the transmission is changed.

The Hypertech Max Energy Programmer for the 2010 f150 5.4 gives 35HP & 42TQ for a power gain. It will let you adjust shift points & shift firmness. There are other features as well. The part number is 42003. Contact me with any questions.

Is this a custom tune or canned tune? Are there dynos to support the quoted hp and tq gains? Please post.

BS.

The OP should be looking into getting a tune from 5 star.

With regards to “Chips” and “Tuners”, years ago it was the best that most could do to enhance the ignition timing, fuel curve, transmission shift points, etc. It was (and still is) very important that a person verifies that the “Tuner” is ASE certified in both ECM and Transmission programming and IMHO be have current certification by the OEM whose vehicle you want to modify. There are plenty of persons who advertise their programs to be the best and even offer custom tunes, but in all reality, very few actually have credentials in these areas- but that’s not to say that some of these “geniuses” haven’t really caused damage to a few vehicles- just jump over to flatratetech.com and read just some of the comments from the MSE techs!. Perhaps what is equally important is the parameters that can be adjusted are set by the oem vehicle software…so there is really no “magic” in what they are doing anyway.

IMHO, if you live near any major city there are excellent tuning specialists with dynos who for the same price (if not less) will tune your vehicle taking into consideration your specific needs including environmental conditions, for your specific vehicle. IMHO, the best bang for the buck!
