Really, you get better mileage out of the Premium? That gives me something to think about then.

As for the 5-star experience. Its really been a great one. As I posted above, I ordered my tuner on the 20th I think. Received it the following Friday. Was super excited, but then found out the tuner didn't work. Wouldn't ever read my vehicle strategy. Contacted Mike and within the night had a response. Monday, I had a new one being overnighted from SCT. Received it yesterday. This one worked!!! Sent Mike the info and within an hour I had the 3 tunes I had requested (all 87's). Only problem was I don't own a single PC, just Macs. Had to wait and borrow the wife's work computer today. Got everything loaded up and programmed into my truck (that was silly because I sat in my truck while it worked, 100 degrees and a half hour of programming). I chose to start with 87 performance. I have nothing to compare it to other than stock. Definitely feel the pep increase and it seems more responsive. Is there a "learning" curve still or is the way it is currently, the way it will always be?

So I don't know how to tell you about the "quality" of the tunes, but I definitely feel a difference. And Mike has been great.

As far as the learning curve, it's about 200 miles or so. I would have gotten at least one 93 tune if I were you, you'd be amazed at the difference between 87 and 93 when it comes to performance. If you think there's pep with the 87 tune, the 93 tune makes think WOW. As for the mileage, with 87 I'm getting around 14 highway, and with 93 I'm around 17 highway, that equates to around a 100 mile per tank difference. Of course that all depends on your driving habits, I have the cruise control set most times when I'm getting those kind of numbers. I have gone back to 87 in the past, but the mileage was so crappy that I just keep it on 93, plus my truck really seems to enjoy it as I do the performance. Mike is a really great guy to work with as well!! As for comparisons, I've had Troyer tunes installed (and they are great) and I have to say I'm just as impressed with Mike Butlers tuning.

That's a nice MPG increase. Buuuutttt, Wouldn't the price of gas for the 93/mpg gain equate to a higher price than the 87/mpg gain? Just wondering.....math is hard.

BTW, you guys are killing me. I'm looking to get custom tunes from Bill at PHP and now I'm seeing this and want to get a Livewire and custom tunes.

I wish I would have never joined this Forum.

Depends on how you look at it, I'd have to make more trips to the stations using 87 (trust me, I've already experienced this) and as it turned out I was spending more on 87 than 93 in the long run, not to mention my truck runs better and cleaner with 93.

Touche good sir!

I just ordered me an X3 and custom tunes for my baby. Got the 87 economy, 87 performance/tow and 91 performance/tow. I would have gotten the 93, but there is no 93 octane in Utah. Again, I was thinking that being at 4.4K in altitude would subject the 91 to 93 octane, but I still wouldn't run it on 93 tune with 91 octane. I've heard back and forth that it's not the same, and also that it is the same.....But I still don't trust it.

I'm with you! We have a lot of stations here that sell 91 and I avoid those at all costs to make sure I get 93
